I was having a second look at my Daemonhunter army, and realised I could take Roughriders as a Fast Attack choice. Furthermore, if I upgrade the sergeant to a veteran and then give him a honorifica, that would mean he has 4 attacks on the charge with WS4 S5 and I6! this is then followed up by his 5 men who strike with 10 attacks at I5. This means that your regular Assault Marines (for example) would not even get to strike back before you've smashed into them pretty hard. It seems like a very potent, though being a one-hit, weapon.

The main reason is that I'm considering some conversion of marine bikes...

What do you think? For 98 points I get the above set up. Is it worth it?

yup, rough riders are well worth it alright. use them as a fast reaction against termies, oblits or anything else with 3+ saves or better. However, I would drop the honorifica and max out on rough riders. This gives the squad more hitting power and more survivability against template/ordnance weapons as there are more troops to kill even with s6 weapons.

Dead On! Rough riders are wonderful. My only beef with them is not with the stats of the unit at all but the models.. if your planning conversions though, I say go for it.. they will be a great counter-assault team.

The plastic Empire Pistoliers are the perfect base for a rough rider conversion.

I believe roughriders are well worth there points,

1 they are great rapid response to any drop pod space marine squads or deepstriking termies.
2 after their power spears are broken you can equip them with melta bombs so they can hunt down annoying artillery, troublesome tanks or worrying walkers ;D.

p.s. rough riders on SM bikes would look totally awesome.

How would you represent the lances though? I just think a biker with a lance would look wrong somehow. Can you think of a suitable conversion to represent the lances?

the space marines do it, and chainswords would just represent normal riders

Every time I see rough riders I think easy vp. They still only have a 5+ save I believe

Well, as for representing the hunting spears, my Death Riders will be using a pike tipped with a Panzerfaust warhead, so something similar might work. Heck, you could even do like Clone Wars cartoon and have a knight style lance with an energy blade being emitted from the tip. Bikers with melee weapons actually works pretty well, if you've seen Akira you know what I'm talking about. The biker gangs in the opening of the movie usually carried long lead pipes for beating on other bikers. When not in use they were stylisly drug across the pavement at the tip, or just layed across the lap or handlebars.
