Default Example

I know this is a very difficult question to ask but could anyone please give me a rough example of how many infantry men and how many tanks i would be up against in a 1000 points gaurd list.

Again i know this can vary greatly but i've never played guard before and i'm just trying to get an idea. Thanks in advance

I my experience, most Guard players like to take at least one Leman Russ and normally a Basilisk. The rest typically comprises Infantry platoons supported by an armoured fist squad and a couple fire support type units. But Wargamer's absolutely right; it depends upon who you play against. Younger players especially see the Basilisk as an all-powerful instrument of destruction, whereas more experienced players will most likely avoid them like the plague in such a small game.

I personally see basilisks as a gambler's weapon. IF you get a nice set up where you can rain death onto the enemy's fire support elements outside that huge minimum range, IF it doesnt scatter horribly, IF someone doesn't have indirect fire weapon to shut it up, IF you are playing on a table 4X6 or bigger it can be LETHAL. There are a LOT of things that can go wrong when using a basilisk, but if it goes right and that shot lands perfectly, it can win you the game. Just don't think it'll do that every game

a fairly generic guard list would have about 80 troops and 2-3 tanks (chim or leman - i dont see many bassies) at that points value.

but its easiy to squeeze in more tanks... or more troops... by neglecting other parts of the list.... like... 1 less tank = almost 3 more infantry squads... vicey versey... for example.

assume you will be outnumbered, undergunned to deal with the Lemans (unless your entire army is designed for AT work), and your best option is to close as fast as you can and tie us up in melee to deny all of our ridiculous firebase static units a chance to blow the shit out of you.

Beware the infiltrating IG... for they have heavy weapons and are in good locations to use them
