Default Salamander Scout Vehicle?

Have you seen the light tank conversion on the FW site? I was thinking of making a couple with an aoto cannon turret courtesy of forgeworld and a hull mounted heavy bolter to represent light tanks in my armored company.
I could easily use the rules for the salamander, but would have to remember that they are open topped, which could account for the lighter armor of the light tank, so it would be fluffy. What do you think of the salamander is it cost effective? A fast gun platform for my armored company seems to be a decent idea. I have been researching historical armored companies and they often employed both heavy and light tanks in WW2.
What do you think?

Salamanders are effective, fluffy, and fun to use. It's the perfect vehicle to mount improved comms onto, as it fits the fluffy roll so well.
Autocannons shouldn't be laughed at either. Being able to damage vehicles up to AV13 is handy. Salamanders are also really effective in combat patrol.

Seems like a great idea to me...I liked that tank, but I didn't like the idea of it proxying a sentinel - how exactly would that thing have a WS and S characteristic, for example? I think you may just have found its perfect role.

Bear in mind a Salamander's autocannon is fixed (hull mounted), so if your light tank features an autocannon turret it shouldn't be permitted to fire at targets outside of a 90 degree forward arc.

So where are these pictures to be found? On the Forge World website you say? Could you be any more specific?

I've seen them, they're in the US GW website, in the IG section.

You could go with a "light tank" conversion and get away with it, methiinks... perhaps leave the rear still open, or have the turret gunner exposed?

In terms of rules effect, Salamander Scouts are superb tanks... if you want to mount Improved Comms though, your best bet is the Salamander Command, which gets them built in for the same price tag (but looses it's Fast status and downgrades the Autocannon to a second Heavy Bolter)... of course, to use them you'd ave to be using the [endlessly better] Armoured Battlegroup rules instead of AC.
