Default How many Heavy weapons in a Command Squad?

Hi,

Iím a long time lurker, first time poster with a question for veteran Guard players.

This sounds like a dumb question at first - how many Heavy weapons can a Command Squad have? The Codex says that 2 guardsmen may form a single Heavy Weapon team, but while leafing through an issue of White Dwarf (Australian #317) that features a ĎEavy Metal painted 2,000 pointed Vostroyan army I noticed that the Command Squad of the Heavy Weapons Platoon composed a Junior officer and TWO Heavy Bolters!?!?

Was this a mistake in White Dwarf or is it legal to have two Heavy weapons in a Command Squad?

A command squad can have 2 heavy weapon squads from each of the following catagories, anti-tank, fire-support, and mortar. What you saw was a JO with his 4 bodygaurds forming up into 2 heavy weapons teams which as you said they can do. The JO comes with 4 gaurdsmen gaurds what have allot of ugrade options one of which is the ability to form 1-2 heavy weapon teams.

I am pretty sure that is not in the codex, ZaruTal

I lost my imperial guards codex a long time ago, so i coudnt check. But if i remember accuratly, it is something along the lines of ''up to two guards can be part of a heavy weapon team . . . any guards who are not part of a heavy weapon team can be equipped with a special weapon . . . or upgraded to veteran in wich can . . . etc''

The option to take fire-support teams and anti-tank teams as part of your HQ choice is invaluable, but the heavy weapons are not actually part of the command squad, they are separated.

If the white dwarf did it, they must have been using special exeption rules or just did a mistake. (or did it on purpose for their army to be more pretty).

'Two Guardsmen may form a heavy weapon crew. A heavy weapon crew must be armed with one of the weapons from the following list...'

-IG Codex (Pg. 38)

So really, it doesn't state an limitations of using one of two teams.
But taking two in a Command Squad makes you look like a rule lawyer.

Or you could do it for fluff reasons, having a siege army dedicated to heavy weapons.

So by the same logic a normal infantry squad can take four heavy weapons can they? Don't think so. Just as one Guardsman not acting as a heavy weapon crew may be armed with a special weapon, two Guardsmen may form a heavy weapon crew.

Not two Guardsmen, then another two Guardsmen, then another two etc...two, that's it.

Two Guardsmen in the squad may form a heavy weapons team. Two in total. If it meant any two Guardsmen it'd say so.

If you checked in the Codex Tom, that was the relevent HQ command squad entry.

Which usually means this format is only for the command squad.

If I am correct then all the guardsmen in the command team may have special weapons. I have been playing with a command team using 3 plasma and a medic, and JO for years and have never gotten any gruff about it. Following that I made the assumption that the four guardsmen could make two heavy weapon teams. I am willing to admit they cant do that much, but only one of the guardsmen can have a special in a command team cannot be right.
