Default Guard vs. Guard (scary, isn't it?)

I have a 1500-2000p battle coming up this week, against a fellow Guard player.
My first impression of this whole thing is that it might become the new KillFest 2007.
Both players have large amounts of infantry and ordanance...oh the horror.

My opponent will rely heavily on mass-infantry.

Well, I think I will rely on two full support-squads of Mortars. One with heavy bolters and one with autocannons.
On the tank-side I'll use two Hellhounds, a Demolisher and a Battletank.
Other than that, I will take infantry squads with lascannons and grenade launchers.
Any thoughts on what more to add?
I have everything to use in models exept ogryns, sentinels and bassies. ;D

Sounds good, but don't load up all of your infantry squads with lascannons because alot of them will probably go to waste kill one guardsmen a turn, other than that use you hellhounds to guard your flanks or wait to ambush big masses of infantry.

gurd vs. guard games are always fun

If you have one a Griffon would excel here.

Support Squads of Heavy Bolters would probably do well. Lots of heavy bolters in general.

A infiltrating veteran squad with three meltas and on honorifica sergeant could do wonderful things if you can deploy them out of LOS the first turn.

I would got for more heavy bolters and at least 3 lascannons (you can never trust facing a IG army with any strength 9+)

It will be a game of cat and mouse. Stay out of range of their massed lasguns, while trying to be as effective as possible with yours...

The Demolisher seems kinda pointless though. Surely you'd be better off with another Leman Russ or a Griffon (seeing as you don't have any basilisks)?

What can plasma cannons do that heavy bolters can't?

(Agreeing with Tom)

Demolishers would be key, I think, at neutralizing enemy tanks.

Good call with the hellhound. They'll absolutely murder his guys. Wounding on a two and not allowing anything in the guard army a cover save.
