Okay the steel leigon i just looked at the models they are awesome. Are they effective. What do they specialize in. Do you have to use the leigon minis or are there others. tell me about the steel leigon.

Do remember that Steel Legion are METAL. This makes them somewhat more expensive, and makes it a little harder to convert without proper tools. They also have less possible "mix and matching" with bitz, and, at least in my opinion, are a bit harder to paint.

But hey, I still think an entire army of gas-masks still looks awesome.

All Imperial Guard regiments work the same. They have doctrines you can pay for to make them your own or to fit in with the fluf of certain worlds. The Steel Legion are really no different from Cadians or any other models unless you change their doctrines.

Now I'll add a shameless plug and say I have at least a full platoon of Mordians sitting in a box waiting for a new home.

Yeah steel legion are awesome, just metal. And that means if you don't trust e-bay,then it's going to be expensive.

Iv'e been wanting steel legion since the armageddon campaign - im waiting for them to be in plastic.

Hey ho, if you have some cash to splash then go for it. Theres no special rules for them anymore (with the possible exception of malitia) so your free to use them as whatever you want. Follow the regimental doctrines bit in the back of the codex for stuff on their doctrines (although i would leave xenos fighters out).

All my conscripts are Steel Legion. (thats a good 50/60 models, yikes never though about it like that.)

It looks great alongside the Cadian Regulars. Plus I've got all the conscripts painted a diffrent colour, it makes the army have a lot of fluff. I didn't care too much about the cost because I only have the basic guardsmen. Plus I think they aren't that hard to paint. However did/do find the lack of randomness annoying, thus most of the guys I've added stuff to their bases or given (now) extra Cadian equipment.

I would say start with a squad or two alongside some Cadian minis to get you started. My models were built up over a long time. I can imagine going out and buying a whole army of Steel Legion being very expensive.

You have to keep it, always, and unless you commonly play Orks (usually not too likely), the points spent on the doctrine will be forever wasted.
