Well the standerd squad(Infantry Platoon) is 10 men. Though 1 per troops chice can be as little as 5. Command aquads are also 5.

Our largest are 50(conscripts.)

Our smallest squad size is actually 11 models.
10 Guardsmen, and a Chimera Transport.

A platoon can have a minimum of 25 men, and a maximum of 55; while a conscript platoon has between 20-50 Guardsmen, on intervals of 10.

You don't HAVE to take a transport.

10. All my squads are nice and neat. However it depends if the question is platoons or individual guard squads.

He's referring to Armoured Fist squads, bud...in which case you most certainly do have to take a transport.

Armoured fist. Which is the smallest basic troop FOC slot, since a Platoon would be 25 minimum. 55 max, unless you add advisors, making it what? 58?

they all come in 5's or 10's. except 'remnant squad' and the elites - i think the least is 10 guys and a chim + hq squad for a combat patrol, and the most is 55+advisers in the Platoon for 1 troop choice. if you want to get ugly and ludicrous, we can, in a 400 point army, fit 2 JO command squads of 5 with hvy bolters, 3 squads of lasgunners with assorted big guns (lascan/a-can/misslunch/etc), and a Chimera just for fun (or another 10 grunts). This approach is not very much fun because every turn takes forever but is a good way of showing off a LOT of troops..... just multiply that equation to match the points value of the game you want, and see if you can run out of room in your deployment zone. hee hee hee. oh yeah... and hope he doesn't have artillery.

I've done that before... 6" deployment zone + 50 conscripts + 3 platoons of Guard + some tanks = not a very nice deployment zone. I just thank god he let me use reserves .

jeez... that scenario sounds just plain ridiculously hard to manage... i like to keep my games fairly 'codex' where you roll for whether or not reserves, infiltrators, etc are a factor... it's the chance you take for using that kind of troop, right? it shouldn't be expected and definitely not encouraged to use 'reserves' as a special consideration because your army is to big for your deploy zone...

because the balance of the game (if there is one) has an awful lot to do with positioning. recent game i played... BLAMMO... battle cannon takes out command squad on turn 1 - serves you right for bunching up... go from there...
