How tough are Imperial Guard Superheavy tanks?

Thatís the question. Specifically could/would a rail gun round piece through their armour in a single hit or would the chance be much fairer? How many Leman Russ tanks are the Baneblade, Stormblade equall to? How big a horde of small guys e.g. Imperial Guard troopers could a Baneblade, Stormblade crush. Would a missile launcher ever have a chance? Are they manuverable (turning circle)? How much roughly would they weigh (120-150 tons)? How many crew do they take?

And what is your opinion on the Superheavy tanks. (Donít just say they are cool, because they are!) more, are they worth it militarily in the 41st millennium?

The Superheavy tanks of the Guard are rolling, landborne leviathans - the Lucius-Pattern Baneblade crawls at 18-25 km/h depending on terrain, and weighs in at 319 tonnes. The entire surface is protected by over 20cm of armour plating, and the vehicle houses a crew of ten. I'm suprised there's no chef among them.

Fluffwise, these vehicles are incredibly durable... and alot of it translates into game, with better armour than a Demolisher and Structure Points to back it up. In terms of firepower, a Baneblade sports a superior-to-normal Battlecannon, a Demolisher Cannon, 2 Lascannons, and no less than 3 Twin-Linked Heavy Bolters... oh, and the main gun has a coaxial Autocannon!

I like Superheavy tanks because they are powerfull, durable, and simply look awesome... troop morale gets boosted just by seeing such a monster on the field.

Well they are by far the best looking models out there. But I never take mine when playing games under 3000pts. I've tryed it and my friends mariens almost outnumbered me. I just dont like to put all my eggs in one basket.

I must say I was very surprised by the Armour Values of Super Heavies when I first saw them. I was expecting to see 15's for the front armour and at least 14's on the side and rear, but they're vulnerable to even grenade launchers and plasma pistols! In that respect, they've less protection than a Land Raider, but I suppose they make up for it with structure points.

Well, armour never goes over 14, so that's out... and despite their massive size, they're not armoured with the specialist multi-layer awesomeness of a Land Raider.

To be fair, even discounting the rest of the army, to flank a Baneblade and hit it's (relatively) vulnerable rear armour, you have to survive 9 Heavy Bolter, 2 Autocannon and 2 Lascannon shots per turn, plus a pair of S9+, AP2 Pie Plates.

How tough are Imperial Guard Superheavy tanks? Very Tough
Specifically could/would a rail gun round piece through their armour in a single hit or would the chance be much fairer? Yes. But it wouldn't destroy it outright, just cause some small explosions and the like.
How many Leman Russ tanks are the Baneblade, Stormblade equall to?3, maybe
How big a horde of small guys e.g. Imperial Guard troopers could a Baneblade, Stormblade crush? lots and lots. depends on the kind of AT this "horde" has.
Would a missile launcher ever have a chance? yep
Are they manuverable (turning circle)? They are not very manouverable. 40kwise they have to move in a straight line and can pivot 90 degrees at the nd of their movement.
How much roughly would they weigh (120-150 tons)? Dont have a clue
How many crew do they take? Answered (10)
And what is your opinion on the Superheavy tanks. (Donít just say they are cool, because they are!) more, are they worth it militarily in the 41st millennium? They inspire fear into the hearts of the enemy, they have shit loads of nast guns, they can crush anything smaller than a chimera in one go and they look incredibly cool (:P). So yes, I think they are worthy of the 41st millennium ;D

also you have to realize you opponent is going to be pouring fire on this vehicle to stop it meaning the rest of your army is killing his without or with little resistance, but if he ignores the tank, it will tear big pie shaped holes in his battleline

Superheavys are cool, but somewhat overrated. 3 LRs would have a roughly equal chance of winning a fight against one Baneblade. And those fuel tanks on the back are WAY too small - that massive engine would use it all up in, say, 5 minutes. Fluffwise Superheavys would basically be a mobile fortress - durable, rugged and able to unleash a vast amount of firepower (which they already do in game terms). But a list crammed full of anti-tank firepower could take one out without too many probs.

Yeah but you realise that 3 land raiders costs more than a baneblade and there useless against infantry, unlike a baneblade

Also those fuel tanks would be extra fuel. no fool would have there main fuel tanks on the outside of there Vehicle, heck we don`t do it with our Charlie 2`s it would be inside

and a list crammed with anti-tank power would be slauhtered by all the infantry you can buy to go with the Baneblade

As Stella there said, you're waaay off, Will. A trio of Land Raiders would generally get 1-3 glancing/pening shots per turn, while the retaliatory fire would probably cripple one Land Raider per turn... more if it disperses fire (Lascannons on one target, Demolisher on another, Baneblade Battlecannon on the third) - and with all those structure points, the Baneblade can survive alot of damage... even considering it costs abot 100 points less those three Land Raiders.

If you took LR to mean the Leman Russ instead... the chances those Russes would stand is hilariously low, with only the Lascannons standing a bearable chance on the front armour.
