Heya,
Well, I have started up my Eldar force and am gonna do a secondry force aswell, and Imperial Guardsmen came to mind. I love the whole idea of Guard but having loads of minis that all look the same..I don't. So i'm thinking of using stormies and lots of heavy weapon platoons, and a tank or two to start off with.
Here are my doctrines
Heavy Weapon platoons
Storm Trooper Squads
Drop Troops
Sharpshooters
Cameleoline
Can you guys tell me whether I should take carapace armour, becuase I was thinking about it. Also, can I deepstrike into cover?
The main plan is to have lots of heavy weapon teams, deploy most but keep some in reserve, then if the enemy force is advancing on my lines, deep strike other heavy weapons behind them, making them surrounded by firepower
- This army is to be predominately made for fun, and modelling, then competitiveness.
Any reccomendations for the list and doctrines would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

As far as I know, you can deep strike into cover.
Don't worry, I will be putting plenty of work into them. I only used the word 'secondry' as it will be my second force I will be building at once. The other being Eldar.

well, if your wanting a combination of stormies and heavy weapons id take:

Grenadiers
Sharpshooters
carapce (just to mingle the guardsmen in with the stormies, drop if people spit!)
and heavy weapon squads.

Use two small units of grenadiers and load upon heavy weapon squads.

If your starting guard I'd go vanilla first, as doctrins take a long time to get used to.

God, that just doesn't make any sense to me....

Take the Grenadier Doctrine over the Stormtroopers doctrine if you'd really like to include stormtrooper models.

do nknow that one heavy weapon platoon takes up one heavy support slot so you go to make up your mind on what you want...
Yes the Grenadier Doctrine takes two storm trooper squads and makes them 2 troops...this is alright but you will have a low number of men.....
Guard is fun...it is also my secondary force and almost legal really...IG is fun...good luck with it man

Woops, lol it was ment to be: 'This army is to be predominately made for fun, and modelling, then competitiveness.

Alrighty, here is the doctrines:
Sharpshooters
Grenadiers
Carapace
Heavy Weapon Teams
(Do you guys think it would be best not to take drop troops, though I would enjoy deep striking/converting minis appropriately)
I was thinking of having a command squad: 2-3 squads of Grenadiers, 1-2 Tanks (Baslisk and/or Russ'] and the rest Heavy Weapon squads.
Can you guys tell me how points minimum this could be (roughly).
What is the best thing to do with my Command Platoon, sit there and give orders, kit for shooting or what?
Also, I play against pretty much most forces on my local store (though, most being nids, and Marines[chaos and normal]} how should I kit the heavy weapon bases?

Thanks

Don't forget all of those new Eldar people jumping on the bandwagon at our store :P

I think It would be best to Take Autocannons as your heavy weapon, as it negates low armour ('nids and eldar) and negates the toughness of marines, and can even pop the odd dread/rino/wartruk.

One idea (if your suicidally inclined) is to take a HQ with four plasma guns, pop out from behind cover and hose the marines down. Or failing that, take a cheap unit and just use it as a slight speed bump.
