Default Body guards

Today I thought surely a commander would have body guards as he would be important
i was thinking i could use some storm troopers

HQ 0 - 5 body guards
They have the same stats as an imperial guard upgraded with carapace armour

They have to join with the commander and his staff and must stay in 2" coherency of the commander. they will then count as a single HQ choice.

They could cost 10pts each

Special rules
Taking the bullet
The can step in front of the shots fired at the commander and then they make there save and take the wound instead of the commander if they fail there save and toughness.

Can you post any improvements or suggestions

They already have bodyguards they are called the command squad, you can just buy them carapace armour as special equipment

yes but they can't put themselves to be shot anyway theres only four soldiers

You choose who's taken off from shooting casualties, effectively making them body guards already.

yes but losing a master vox caster,a medic or a special weapon thats annoying
why not lose an ordinary guardsman

I was looking at the codex and thinking you could get veteran upgrades for your whole command squad, give them carapace armor from the wargear list (rather than the carapace squad upgrade which takes a doctrine slot and forces your entire army to use the same) and you could squeeze in some other little toys like the surveyor or some bionics or give them all bolters or something. You would lose the heavy and special weapons, but you would have some tough bodyguards, and you could still turn one into a medic.

think an option for the stormtrooper command squad would have been nice for the grenadiers doctrine....
