Indeed, specification would be nice. :3
But anyways, the Imperial Guard has the ever-humorous "Imperial Primer" (can be bought from Black Library).
There are also random propaganda-posters in several fluff pieces and books. A fun poster is to be found in the "Xenology" book.

I'm guessing they use stuff like WW2 and WW1 propaganda posters. You see the triumphant guardsman trampling over bodies of enemies, or a dead guardsman with a saying like "Who will avenge my death? Will it be you?".

But seriously, a Guardsman, I'm willing to bet, could a) outshoot me, b) give me the beating of my life, and c) shove more squad-based tactics down my throat than I'd ever care to digest. Guard are hard, hard men. Whether or not GW's inconsistent, Marine-worshipping fluff keeps with that, mkay?

Real men fight in tanks!

Well they probably do use those posters....we need you...the famous soviet ones....and if they get conscripted they probably get a speech or somethnig and watch a thing or too on the importance of fighting for the imperium....porbably anythnig they did in ww2 or 1 were used....

Depends entirely on the planet. The Cadians kids look up into the sky and see the Eye of Terror, daddy explains exactly what's in the place, and you've got a planet were kids can field strip a lasgun blindfolded before they can walk, train in military maneuvers as soon as they can, cities are structured to be defended in a siege, and civilian fashions run towards urban camo.

Places like Tallarn and other highly developed and educated worlds will probably be fairly similar to recruiting in the Western world, though Kreig would be the exception.

Catachan is probably the only place where the 7 hour combat life expectancy is an attraction, as it is significantly higher chances of survival than sitting on the back porch.
