Default Heavy weapon crews

If two Guardsmen are required to form a single heavy weapon crew, what happens when one of them snuffs it? Is the weapon rendered useless and the remaining crewman simply reduced to a conventional lasgun-armed Guardsman?

The way I've always played it is to allow the remaining crewman to continue operating the heavy weapon as normal (as unrealistic as that may be), but am I wrong to do this? I just can't find a rule anywhere permitting this.

It should say somewhere that if one Guardsman is killed the weapon opperates normally, while if both are killed the weapon is useless.

That's how it works for Guardian Heavy/Support Weapon Platforms - moreover, the backup weapons crewman doesn't do much; his job is to carry the ammo, something anyone could do (including the guy hefting the weapon itself, but he'd have to be ded 'ard).

The way you played it was correct. If one of the men die, the heavy weapon can still fire.

Nothing happens.

You can still shoot regardless of losing one of the two crewmen. Only when both are killed do you finally lose the gun truly.

As Novae stated, old codices like the Eldar had rules written for it to make it clear. There was reason for it.

Old codices that had `crews' had the rules written. They stated that if one crewman was lost, it was ok. The weapon was still fine. You have to kill both crewman to finally make the weapon useless. We don't need this old rule anymore really, because we have specific casualty removal rules that stop the `kill the heavy weapon carrier' abuse that templates could cause (and so 3rd edition had a special rule that allowed you to move templates if you had a squad leader, etc). Now we're protected from that, so you don't need a special rule to tell you.

Cheers!

It says in the third edition dex that if one crew man gets killed the weapon operates as normal, but for some reason they decided to omit that from the newer codex. My guess is too try and over complicate the guard since it was getting popular and entering into space marine domain.
