Default Query on Heavy Weapons

This is more model wise then actual gameplay wise. But in the last edition IG heavy Weapon teams were two part groups. Is doing this still valid and/or legal? I'm curious because the Steel Legion Missile Launcher uses two seperate bases while the Steel Legion HWs use the larger bases. Is there any advantage to using the bigger base or two small bases? Help please!

I would say it wouldnt really matter unless its a heavy weapons team. If your gonna feild it in a guardsmen squad, then theres really no difference.

Even though they are on the same base alot of times the teams still count as seperate models and are not consitered artillery, but infantry. Metal 'Ead out!

You are better off "basing" them as seperate models. Nothing even says that you have to change the model that is the "loader". I usually just put the backpack on my loaders.

In the GW FAQ, is states that the models are based together for convenience and can be seperated. The loader can fire his lasgun while the heavy weapon is firing, and you have to kill both the loader and the firer to stop the heavy weapon.

Can I ask what the point is, then? I mean, why even bother saying that you have two guardsmen who are attached to the gun when the second one acts exactly like a normal member of the squad and since heavy weapons die last and you can still shoot with one model, what's the point?

Some things can target individuals in a platoon. Also for things like base to base combat, templates. It becomes fairly important what size base you have also. If you have 2 inches from a large base and someone hits directly with a pie plate, you wont kill many people. If you are in hand to hand combat with something that has a large base, well the whole squad will be in base to base contact with him.

As stated above, either way works, and each has advantages and disadvantages. I like the seperated better looks wise, though they don't sell those awesome seperated guns anymore i don't think

Game wise, absolutly none. It gives you a couple of extra wounds on your heavy weapon squads, but if we got the devastator entry, we could just buy more wounds. Its really just about 2 things.
1) Fluff. A single guardsman cannot carry around a lascannon, its mount and the ammo, and still be fit enough to fire it when needed. Having two guardsmen doing so also adds to the divide between guardsmen and marines, which seems rather lacking(most people believe marines to be simply better versions of marines with better equipment, like the next step after stormtrooper).
2)To make it more complicated. It serves little purpose, and adds alot of confusion both model and game wise to new players This will discourage new players from playing IG, and leave existing IG players as a small elite minority.

this is all it's about, just to suit fluff, which there should be more of IMO.

yeah somebody should spank the designers for their ambiguous treatment of the heavy weapon team... as far as we have been able to figure it: the ammo guy is an extra wound for the shootey guy, and gets taken first as a casualty even if the shooty guy is in a enemy fire arc and the ammo guy is not. they don't have to be double based, they just have to be in 2" cohesion. generally the ammo guy has a lasgun that he shoots while the shooty guy shoots the big gun, but i don't think that this is necessarily the rule...... armies of imperium program lets us change the ammo guy weapon in a command squad into a laspist/ccw combo just like any other guardsman in a comm squad.
