Default Does an executioner have any redeeming features?

Okay, I love the look of this tank and the idea behind it, but a leman russ or a demolisher seems to be a much better bet tactically. In fact I know a lot of people who use these beautiful tanks as Demolisher proxies!

So is there any niche that these perfoem well in? How can I use them to get the most out of them?

Err... the executioner is the tank with the Uberplasmagun on the turret. I like the look of it, personally. I would use it as a demolisher, just for the look. I'm going ot order vanquisher turrets (stygies 8 ) for my Russes, just because it looks so much cooler, whether I use the special rules or not.

I like your vanquisher idea. I also especially like the stygies turret over the gryphone version.
However are there any tacticall advantages to the executioner over a standard russ? I think that it can be more mobile/dish out more fire on the move due to not having the ordnance.

Also I think that the AP 2 might be useful againt knocking out some smurf armour saves.

Don't worry about confusing the two, it's a REALLY easy mistake to make. In the steel legion mod for DOW WA I somehow confuse thunderers for executioners? Actually that's one of the reasons I ask the question. They are really AWESOME in the game and was wondering if it was okay on tabletop as well as I just love the models and it fits very well with my fluff (my regiment is galaxtically realy close to ryza. And plasma is a main armament, but until now I was using demolishers with plasma).

Has anyone used these to effect?

If the Plasma Destroyer was an Ordinance weapon - even one with a smaller blast - it would be worthwhile. As it is, you just get a a Plasma Cannon with better range. If you want TEq busting at long range, the points are better spent on a Lascannon team.

Pity that they're so overcosted... FW Russes look plain fething awesome :'(.
