Default Do Guard REALLY need numbers?

Well in my guard army I have the least amount of guardsmen needed to make an army (an infantry platoon and an armoured fist squad) because I'm thinking of spending the other points on tanks,...ect.

Well. You could go with an Armored Company. Lotta tanks.
I go with something inbetween.
A bit of both.

You could use the Mechanised comapany Doctrine and put all your squads in Chimeras that'll give you an edge in objective missions. if you like tanks go for it.

depends on wether they're a 9th company (devastator company) SM army, in that case your dead. fortunately for you that is one of the most UNcommon variants of the SM list so good luck.

I'm just saying that you are guard, and can bring lots of different pieces of plastic to the table. Lots of plastic that can hurt the enemy = good. Sometimes, you can have so much plastic, the enemy couldn't kill you all if you stood in his gunsight.

Generally speaking.. the guard do need there numbers, yes.

But their are diffferent list could could play with that might be able to get around that. I would suggest going with the other suggestion Bob the Avenger gave you. Use the Mechanised doctrine. Then all your guard are in chimera's and you can cash in on a lot more tanks..

As far as I have seen guards, they tend to come in such a big number taht they looks like a cinematic scene from WW2.

the guards stats are mediocre, and their save is pretty bad but what they can't make up with quality, they make it up in quantity. As they say, quantity is a type of quality.

Usual list for guard armies are comprised of 2 leman russ, 1 basilisk, few squads of stormtrooper, dozens or guardsmen, and HQ in chimera. But most often that i face the list will be comprised mostly of 2 basilisk and 1 leman russ.
