You need an inquisitor to use an assassin... unfortunately.

Real men fight in tanks!

Incorrect... you need an iquisitor to use an assassin in a DH or WH army. Space marines and IG may take them without one.

So yes... you can

Well thats a big sigh of relief, I've always wanted to use an Eversor (the best one -ever- ) but I thought I'd need to take an HQ- Inquisitor Lord in order to take it.

But you do!

In third edition, there were the "Heros of the Imperium". Essentially, Imperials of all forms got access to some stuff, including assasins!

Then there was the assasin codex... and our current system, where Inquisitors are a prerequisite for taking one.

Unfortunately, it's not like that.

The DH and WH codex supersedes and replaced Codex: Assassins. It's actually illegal to use the Assassins listed in the Codex: Assassins now ( :), which really miffed a lot of people who bought that codex. But unfortunately, that's what happened.

You in fact must have an Inquisitor allied to be able to ally an Assassin.

Cheers!

The DH and WH codex supersedes and replaced Codex: Assassins. This happened right before BattleZone City Fight was released. I think your timeline is a bit skewed Mal. Codex Battlezone: Cityfight predates the daemon hunters codex by more than a year.
Codex Battlzone: Cityfight was released a few months before the Tau, around October/November. Daemonhunters were then released around March the next year.

Sorry for being nitpicky. I just like being right

Lol, totally not the point. I think we're trying to discern if in order to take a Assassin (Elite) you'd need to take either a Inquisitor (Elite) or an Inquisitor Lord (HQ).

Since the rule is 0-1 Elites may be taken and 0-1 HQ's, no Heavies, and so on.....you'd need to take 1 Inquisitor Lord in order to take the Assassin...unless the ruling is off and you don't need an Inquisitor to take an assassin as an Ally, just need an Inquisitor if you're taking it as an Elite in a DH or WH army. Basically just wondering if that rule in the little side box next to the Officio Assassins in the Codexes applies to Allies (I personally think it should/does, but hey, I'd love it if I didn't have to shell out all those points just to take a 95pt Eversor).

And right you are.

I frizzlefrazzled the dates quite a bit there. Duly noted and edited.

Previous, Codex: Assassins. Which is no longer even printed.

Now, the legal way, is the Witchhunter and Daemonhunter codices. Also, in the future the Alien Hunters codex as well.

Cheers!
