Default Medi-pack questions

The codex says a Medi-pack allows you to ingore the first failed saving throug, what if your person dies without the benefit of a saving through, i.e they were shot with a ap 5 weapon, do you still ignore the "failed" save roll even if there was no roll in the first place?

did GW mean ignore the first wound?

does anyone know how this works?

Last time I checked, the Medic can save anything that is not either:

1) Double Toughness.

2) A close combat weapon that allows no save.

@ Adrenelyn:
Medi-packs work once per turn

So the examples in the codex are exactly what Wargamer stated.

It's interesting that they only mention close combat weapons that don't allow armour saves. This makes me lean towards allowing them for low ap weapons as they are not weapons that always ignore armour saves like power weapons.

At least that's the way I would play it, but now that you mention it, that is a really good question.

Adrenelyn, but doesn't the plasma gun have double the toughness of a guardsman?

would the medi-pack still ingnore an overheat roll?

Yes, if you haven't used it already (eg: in the last shooting / close combat phase).

a plasma shot has double the strength of a guardsmen toughness, not over heat isn't taking a plasma hit. its just a generic wound. so your pack wuld save you

Come to think of it, the necron WBB rule is probably what makes sense. This was clarified in their FAQ. No saves from instant death, close combat weapons that allow no armour save, rending weapons, or SOB divine guidance.

That sounds to me like a more complete list of what should disallow medi-packs. Note that low AP is not mentioned.

I know that they are very different circumstances, but I can't ignore the similarities of the lists.

A power weapon ignoring a wound takes in account advanced technlogies that can turn any type of personal armor into mush and making a mockery of a biological systems ability to resist. I always imagine a power sword as a light saber that effortlessly slides through whatever the victim (even if the victim is the under belly of a massive armored walker).

Now a weapon that ignores a certain armor saves sends me a different message. Something that is AP5 is akin to a modern day "cop killer" bullet that ignores most standard pieces of personal armor. It doesn't mean that a hospital wouldn't be able to stabilize the person but that his armor wouldn't protect him.
