Default Shogun Lord (I can't come up with a good name)

hey, just thought I'd have a go at making some house rules for a general in my samurai Imperial guard army (I may get round to building him , once my painting and converting skills improve)

SHOGUN LORD

Cost Ws Bs S T W I A Ld Sv
120 5 4 3 3 3 4 3 10(7) 4+

Wargear : Master crafted Katana , bolt pistol , demolition charge -

Special rules

Death before dishonour

if the shogun lord , fails a morale check he executes himself

Kamakazi

the demolition charge above may only be used when he has 1 wound left.

Vengeance

every time the shogun lord is wounded , allied troops within 24" gain +1 S for the next turn.

just a few ideas , may not acctually be used

comments appreciated

call him searing dragon, that is cool, i know the samurai where all about honour but that is a bit extreme....

its not extreme its true , if they run away in battle , they kill themselves , they would rather die than become a coward

or so they say. my best guess is the officers might have, but the footsoldiers where as cowardly as any other good soldier. how about you do this: Take off the demolition charge, but when he loses his last wound have him blow himself up, like a tau failsafe detonator. treat it like a conqueror shell.

their code of honour was very strict, whenever they lost combat, or thought they wouldn't win (which didn't happen often) or if they broke a law, then they killed themselves, the samurai weren't cowards by any means.

Shogun? Where I'm from, thats a mumble that means 'Shotgun'.

Hmm... Samuri? No place in the Guard, I think. He would be better suited as an Inquisitorial Assassin.

Then you could justify all those special rules and the statline.

Perhaps a whole new Templum, Templum Shogun?

I like the concept... keep working on it, its looking good!

As a side note, the regular soldiers would not be samurai, only the officers. The regular soldiers would just be regular soldiers and as such would not be bound by bushido. So they would still run like an average person.

As for the rules, I think carapce armor would be deserved, also ditch the gun, no samurai would dishonor himself with a gun thats for the regular soldiers to use. Either give him dual close combat weapons(katana and wakizashi some samurai were known to use both) or perhaps a great weapon. Should be a power weapon as well. Ditch the vengeance rule as well, and the Kamikaze rule as a Shogun lord wouldn't do that more likely than not. Finally for the Death Before Dishonor rule, make so that when he does so your opponent only gains half victory points or some such thing. Good concept, just a bit misrepresenting methinks.

You are aware that some samurai were trained nigh on exclusively in the use of firearms. Does the katana count as anything? A power weapon perhaps?

the samurai didn't use 'normal' soldiers, they were all trained in the martial arts, as i said before, they were tied by honour, ALL of them.
any way, i like the idea of the assasin.

Not true at all. Learn your history friend, the samurai were the nobles who served as mounted soldiers in the same vein as western knights, and did not serve as regular soldiers in the armed forces that was the job for common soldiers. Also true Samurai saw firearms as being disgraceful and breaking the code of Bushido, though yes some did train in their use towards the final years of the Samurai, they were looked down upon by the more traditional samurai.
