Default Grenadiers Doctrine Proxy Question

Okay, now for the Grenadiers doctrine it says you may take 0-3 storm trooper platoons as troops. Do we have to represent this with the marxhmellow puffball men of doom or can i use for instance normal vostroyans to represent storm-troopers. My main reason for this question is to ask if this is tournament legal? Becuase you can use Karskin as ST and now that has me up side down and cunfuzzled.

Storm troopers are noticeably different then standard guardsman and in WYSIWYG your models should represent this. It doesn't matter if you use Kasrkins, the old storm trooper models or any other guard infantry. If using Vostroyans or other standard guard models then you will have to most likely model each model to represent a) the Carapace armour and b) the upgraded hell guns.

In tournaments things have to be identifiable and not confusing. In a friendly game you can say to your opponent see these cadians, well I am using them as storm troopers but at any tournament the models you use as storm troopers have to be identifiable as storm troopers whether through modeling or using the designated storm trooper models

The Vostroyan models are really quite interesting.

They're quite clearly modeled to be wearing carapace armour and their lasguns are very distinct.

Could you use them as storm troopers/grenadiers?

I'd say yes, you could.

However it must be clear to your opponent what's what.

So if you're using vostroyans as stormtroopers don't also use them to represent regular guardsmen, conscripts and veterans.

I've heard a lot of people talk about using Vostroyans as Witchhunter Inquisitorial Stormtroopers, and it's an idea I am behind 100%.

Just make sure your rank and file look suitably non-Vostroyan.

i was tempted to get some vostroy models to be stormtroops in my cadian model guard regiment. They look completely different, and games workshop cant complain it costs the same

Soem people just green stuff hip guards and knee pads on to cadians, and say they're stormtroopers.
