Default Women in the Guard?

My friend and I had an argument today. He said that women were not allowed in any IG regiment, and I said to look at the Tanith, they have women. I was wondering if other regiments allowed females.

(I won, btw.)

they do. but its rare to have female guardsmen(or are they called guardswomen). and when they do its usually an all or nothing situation. most women are put together into all-female regiments, making mixed regiments even rarer. all female regiments include the valhallan 347th(i think, its 300 and something) and certain regiments from xenonia.

You got the nail on the head there Elessar.
You can read about these mixed regiments in the Commisar Cain book by Sandy Mitchell. "For the Emperor"/"Caves of Ice" etc.

We also learn from the Cain series that women units were supply line and communication units, as the protective nature of males fighting along side females would outweigh mission objectives. The one in question, the 347th [or sumthin' along that line] was a depleted back line unit combined with a crack, frontline infantry regiment. The result was a mixed guard unit, and it was certainly a tense one.

Women are there, but males are much more common.

The tanith sure do make use of Female soldiers... there's even models for them (1 or 2 anyway)

Catachans include Females amound their ranks. There are some short stories involving a female captain for a Catachan regiment.

There is even a female commissar if we must get technical. Women are in the Guard but I think in one of the Caine books it does say they are limited. Only something like 10% make up the total number of Guard units under arms.

Actually the model for the female commissar is a rather good model. And the story that goes with her is good too (if it's meant to anyway)

im sure that there are imperial guardsmen "support groups" on various planets to counteract that

but as for guards women, they are there, but i would guess they usually have noncombat roles. most of the time.

I know that there are female guard but i thought that most of the female warriors were in the SoB'? ??? I would be surprised if there was even 10% in the guard.

I think your referring to the Valhallen 597th there. Although other mixed units do exist. The Phantine XX for example and as someone stated above, the Tanith.
