I was just thinking, GW should really do a Tanith Codex, I mean, the books are among the most popular in the Black Library.*Spoiler?Maybe?* As for a 2nd Troop choice, they could have Vervunhivers(sp?). They could have a small list of "allied" Guard units, like Phantine or Jantine Patricians. I don't know, I just think that would be cool.

There isn't really enough new units that are different enough from the mainstream codex to warrent an entire codex of their own, although it would have to be mainly fluff if they did make one./

Unfortunatally there are rules printed in the Codex: Imperial Guard for such drastic measures.

They have also published rules for fielding Gaunt with a retinue of characters.

tanith don't deserve to be in the IG codex, let alone have one of their own.

Why?

Next to Catachan and Cadians they are the most famed and known of the IG regiments...

but as for a dex. I use the Catachan codex as a base for my lists... ignoring jungle fighter rules and replacing them with Light infantry. So it's a catachan list without ambush basically...

What?! Heresy! *draws back slide on commissariat issue bolt pistol* ;D

A while back I recall they had a Sabat Crusade set of games (in the UK I think it was) that had rules for all of the allied units.

I don't think that they warrant a new codex, but I would LOVE some new models (I mean they have like 3 or something). Also the rules they have in the codex has 7 doctrines (the most of any army), but i believe this makes them prohibitively expensive.

There was a piece in one of the White Dwarfs with special rules for fielding the Ghosts. This is obsolete now with the doctrines available in the Codex, but a return to those rules would be nice.

If anyone has a (working) list that uses their doctrines, i'd be intrigued to find out how it fares.

Well that will fit in nicely actually, I mean, the first and only ain't a very big regiment anymore and they are probably one of the most specialised regiments out there.

I think the new doctrines fit the tanith guard very good, it covers almost every ability the tanith guard have and adds even a tad extra to it (independent commissars for example, come on how many commissars do the tanith have? 2 as far as I remember). Allied units rule is kinda obselite, example: tanith don't have tanks, just add a few tanks to your army, paint them in a differant scheme and voila an allied regiment.
No I don't think they need their own codex, the guard codex has covered all the divergences they have.

Greetz,
Alexander

The codex says that regiments have 5 doctrines, then it says some have more due to their glorious history. the tanith have 7 doctrines, thats as much as cadians! are you going to tell me the tanith ahve more history than cadians? cadians have been around for aslong as anyone can remember. millions upon millions of cadians have died over thousands of years. are you going to tell me a single regiment of light infantry with a handul of battles under their belt amount up the same as cadians? The Death Korps only has 6 doctrines, 500 fething years they fought to re-take kreig from the heretics but they only get 6 doctrines. and dont even get me started on the regiments that wheren't included at all. the Rasak 'Blood Pools' took 96% casualties in a single battle, thats 2 men per platoon that survived! and they didn't get into the codex. the preatorians where the backbone of the battle at big toof river, which was an absolute blood bath, but they didn't merit entry into the codex. the tanith are a single regiments, from a destroyed planet. they have done nothing great, and have never achieved anything of consequence that merits their entry into the codex. they are a half arsed regiment led by an idiot who's only reason for being incharge is his dad was a hero and he was quick to execute officers. gaunt is a warrior, not an officer, and he shouldn't be leading a regiment.

the books are great, but the tanith dont deserve to be in the codex.
