Default Conscripts

I was thinking of the many uses of these cheap and expendable troops... And I came up with these:

Protection of tanks from Termies/Deep Strikers!
Well, we all know that Terminators can't teleport within a certain distance of an enemy model when deep striking right? when if you encompass your valuable tank in a curtain of conscripts, they can't get chose enough to threaten the tanks without having to charge the tank (although they can still shoot it with the likes of comb-meltas etc)

Cannon Fodder Massed Gunfire
Probably the most obvious, imagine 20 Conscripts all rapid firing their lasguns.... 40 shots argg!

Assault Shield Protection of Command HQ
If you place your command HQ in the middle or behind the Conscripts then not only do they benefit from the CO's Ld but also stop the HQ being charged by enemy assault troops.

Mob'em Ladz
Simply charge the enemy. If you can kill them (like Wraithlords), then you'll tie them up for a really long time, plus against most things, they'll stand a fair chance of doing a little damage.

Note you can mix and match these tactics as you see fit....

Anyway, any more that you guys can think of?

They used to make a great firescreen, but 4th Edition changed that...

I was gonna say that, but it's still true for assault based armies since u have to charge the conscripts

The only problem is that when u mass concripts they add up and get pretty expensive for a very uneffective unit. 50 men for 4 pts each with bs 2 = gayness because only 16 or so actually hit. when u can take normal platoons and get heavy weps and bs 3 so u would hit 25 shots instead of 16 thats 9 more hits which are much more effective with heavy weps.

work out how many you get in combat patrol ;D
That's a lot of troops for 400 points (less of course the commisar with powerfist and plasma pistol)
Putting the comissar with them and they become fearless

well for 400 pts u get 100 men but those 100 men suck.

only hit ona 5+ wound most other troops ona 5+ and have a 5+ save

the reason they are 4 pts is cuz they suck gretchen are better.

Just proves how cheap life is in the 40k universe. Oh and I doubt anyone would field a full Conscript platoon unless of course they were going against something along the lines of 1 Daemon Prince, a Bloodthirster and some Chosen in which case you'll need all 50 guys just to make it through the 1st round of combat.

they aren't terribly bad for taking objectives and such...if you have independent commisars they get just plain nasty

Give him powerfists or something.

Play all space wolf style with ur gaurd.
Mass em in combat then bust out the power fists.

To this I can only say...

I remmember hearing about a tournament where you had 500 points to create an army consisting of up to a single Independant Character and as many other Infantry from any army choice as their bodyguard, people were sending in Inquisitors and GreyKnights, Chaplains and Terminators, Shas'o and Crisis Suits... the list went on.

A man walks up to the table with a big yellow bucket, he turns the bucket over... a whole crapload of Grots falls out, won the tornemant.

This goes to show you, numbers are dangerous in this game, imagine having 4 Conscript squads charge a Chaplain and 6 Marines, the marines would get 6 attacks each, kill up to 6, also the chaplain has up to 6 attacks with a power weapon, killing again up to 6, if they kill 12 there are still 28 Conscripts, they launch 56 attacks back at those marines... thats a lot of attacks, if any marines survive (they may do this, but it's quite against the odds) they won't survive the next turn...

40 Conscripts = 160 pts

Chaplain= minimum of 70 points
6 Marines = minimum 90

See where i'm going with these numbers?
