Default Converting Leman Russ Vostroyan style!

Since I am now planning my Vostroyan army, I got to think about the tanks.
I've always found the Leman Russ utterly hideous, especially when fitted with sponsons.
Just a big lump of metal that is so out of proportion in every way.

So, I was looking for a way to convert it and stumbled on the Stygies VIII Vanquisher turret, which I find is incredibly goodlooking.

The Leman Russes I'm going to convert (2 or 3 of them) are armed with 3xHB, but since I don't want the sponsons at all I was thinking of how to get the three HB's onto the tank and came up with an idea.

First off, since this will not be a Vanquisher but a Leman Russ, I will have to shorten the Vanquisher cannon and make it look bigger, which is easily done by cutting off the thinner part of the cannon and then gluing the fat parts together. Hope you understand what I mean.
Take a look if you don't: http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/s8vanq.htm

On with the HBs then. I need three on the tank since it is fitted with three in the armylist. And since I like the Vostroyan HB and these tanks are meant to be used with Vostroyans I'm going to cut up some Vostroyan HBs. One is meant to be in the hull, which is also easily fixed, by using the Russ Lascannon, cutting it of and replacing it with the Vostroyan HB (or as much of it that fits onto the model.

That's one heavy bolter down and two to go.

One of the HB's could well be placed on top of the tank, as though it was pintle-mounted and the last one could be placed, in the same way as the one taking up the lascannon space, next to the cannon where there is some other weapon or whatever, check the picture for this.

That's the three HB's I need, and they're all fitted to the tank without adding the unproportionate sponsons, and also keep it in line with the rest of the army.

What do you think? Is it going to much work? I wouldn't say so.
And also what are thee WYSIWYG rules on this? There are three HB's on the model as the army list says, but they're not on sponsons. Will that make people whine about it?

You could sue a co-axial heavy bolter, which means it shoots the same place that the turret does, much like on the Russian T-34.

To count as one of the heavy bolters.

Heck, I'd be too in love with the model to complain!

I like the idea, but a pintle HB is also quite un-proportiante [Yes, I've tried {Yuk!}] I suggest modelling sponsons to be a little more subtle...

The cannon idea is great though!

Good luck!

As you can't fire the Cannon and another gun, I don't see a problem with Co-Axial mounting... it's really more for looks than anything else.

The problem with the co-axial HB is that the HB is a little large to be a co-axial weapon model-scale wise, but I'm sure someone crafty could make it fit...

I have mounted bolters in the light box on the front panel of the Leman Russ Turret... just cut off the door and mount the bolters inside the box, then make a new front panel out of plasticard...it looks incredible.. !!!
