Default My 5,000 point Imperial Guard Company, Dave...

Foreword:
Now, I own none of these models, however I am capable of purchasing them. I have never played as Imperial Guard before. If I am going to invest in IG, I figured I might as well go balls-to-the-wall and make a 5,000 point force. It utilizes one FOC and the Super Heavy Tank Option choice-type-thingy. However, I am unsure on a few points concerning forge world models, as I do not own IAVI. Until I do the list is not final.

Now, on with the list. Please comment as if the list included 2 Baneblades and the Destroyer Tank Hunter. If the list would then be drastically lower or elevate in points cost, list that point limit (4500 points, 5500 points, et cetera) along with your review.

Thank you for telling me the truth, Dr. Chandra.

I would suggest you purchase IAvol1, which will answer all your questions with regards to Super Heavies. However, your cost for them is off.

I'm pretty sure the Destroyer is the same in IAvol1 as it is in the AC... but I'm not sure. The AC may use an older rule-set.

List looks fairly well-rounded (at the size we're talking, they tend to). However, you cannot have three Medics in your command squad; re-read the entry more carefully.

I have found the fault, Dave. I have adjusted the list appropriately. Also, I left out a SWiSS.

How far off am I on the SHT, just so I can get an idea for the rest of the list? More or less than 200pts?

Thank you.

You're a little under 200pts over.

Hey Hal... is the "Dave" thing a reference to 2001 a space odyssey or is that his name?

All I have to say about the list is don't you are NOT going to need 2 Baneblades, and all the other fire power. Can you say "overkill?"

Switch one out for a Marauder Destroyer. The model looks more cool anyway.

As I own both Baneblade and Marauder Destroyer, the Baneblade is better in most situations.

I could get the maximum amount of infantry out of my FOC, or I could get 2 Baneblades. Which would be more fun?

The massive tanks that blow crap up, of course.

Hell no! True, two baneblades on the table would most certainly make you wet your pants, but there is nothing like outnumbering your opponent with your first platoon and then telling him that you still have to deploy 5/6th of your army.... ;D

quite a dilema you've got here. the baneblade, one the one side, represents everything the guard is. big, shooty and it doesn't take crap from anyone. this thing encompases the Imperial Guard warmachine into one model. but then again, haven't we all dream of maxing out our troop choices in a guard army? haven't we all dreamed of getting a command squad for ourselves just so that they can cary cases upon cases full of infantry. persoanlly id only take one baneblade and then pour in the platoons. about your list:

have you considered investing in vox casters? your entire army is Ld7, with the odd Ld8 command squad, and your HSO. so for 20 points to the command squad and 5 per infantry squad you could upgrade your entire army to Ld 10! and seeing as this will be a huge map(maxed out guard need a big one, trust me) having your platoon commanders running around providing Ld wont do it.

id suggest you take the lascannons off the AT squads and integrate them into guard squads, then replace them with Missile launchers. still incredibly deadly, and no one ever sees it coming.

3 plasmas in you platoon commanders isnt a good idea. it means that as soon as you take a wound you've lost one. your alot better off putting them in guard squads where you have good meat shields. especially since you platoon commanders provide the leadership of this army, you dont want to make them a target.
