Just wondering what is better. I have 2 Leman Russ's that I am building and I am stuck on the weapon configuration.

Should I give the tanks the lascannon and heavy bolter sponson or do I go with 3 heavy bolters and a pintle-mounted heavy stubber.

To give you a bit of info I have 2 lascannon anti-tank squads for anti-tank work and I have 2 mortar squads for anti-horde work.

Having a single str 9 shot that hits only 50% of the time seems not very efficient compared to having 9 str 5 AP 4 shots and 3 str 4 ap 6 shots. What do you guys think? Do I go with the Heavy Bolters and stubber all around or keep it with the lascannon/heavy bolter sponson?

for normal games i usually go with Hbolters all around or a hull mounted lascannon. if your going to use this tank in an armoured companyits usually best to give him the las/bolter combo, this way he mains flexible and deadly even if he loses the main cannon. in normal games however i wouldn't bother adding sponsons to a hull lascannon. also, dont bother with the pintle heavy stubber, for 12 bloody points would could get 2 heavy bolters in you infantry squads and still have enough left to give your JOs bolters. only ever use pintle weapons on non-ordnance tanks.

I find the Las/bolter combo to be very useful. Inevitably, when your tank loses a weapon, it is always the main gun. Las/bolter Russ can still take on any target you care to name, whereas a Las Russ is useless against infantry, and a Bolter Russ is no threat to armour or big monsters.

Not true the russ with a las heavy bolter combo dose fairly good against horde because when they're far away Battle Cannon them it even takes out marines and it kills the little critters even better. but i have never played ine with a heavy bolter all round.

Wargamer is talking when the battlecannon is destroyed.

Lets say your battlecannon is destroyed, you're still multipurpose with the 2 heavy bolters and a lascannon, you can hit both infantry and a tank with the lascannon.

Well if it my russ then it would have a pinle heavy stubber as well.

Carnex, you seem very confused by this...

Please read my post again:

As such, preaching the might of the Battle Cannon is somewhat misplaced. Besides, there are times when a Lascannon is a far better weapon to use than a Battle Cannon (such as firing at 2+ Save targets). Such targets are hard to injure with a Battle Cannon, but the Las will normally do the job, and six Heavy Bolter shots might just claim another lucky wound/kill for you.

Lascannon on the hull, no Sponsons, no upgradeds, (other than Camo Netting, for fluff)

156 pts. I run Three of them, and blast Meqs to bits. Then Mortars open up, and hlep to crush infanty, then if needed the lascannons kill tanks, and 2+ saves

I'm finding the lascannon is desirable in the front. I don't run sponsons, so for me it is either or. I have 2 tanks with Hbolters, 2 tanks with lascannons.
