Why can't we use stange configurations on models to create an interely non-cadian based IG idea?

becuase we're poor, therefor buying any non-cadian models would bankrupt us after the first platoon.(unless you use catachan)

I think I could expand my Guard entirely in Metal-Cadian, where the models not so hard to get now... :

You're inside the GW box. I am looking for non-GW, yet tournament legal, ways of making an IG army so completely novel that it screams to be looked at.

I'd like to create, for example, an IG army based on WWI US army. This can't be done with any GW products other than the cadian models, and they are just not a good fit.

Well I really want to try combining the Bretonian men at arms with Cadians.

Use the men at arms heads with the rim around the helmet so they're similar to WWI and WWII British helmets. Give them Cadian arms, and Men at arm bodies. Possibly actually chop the men in arms in half at the waist, use the Cadian torso and then putt over the back of it so they have a long coat extending down to meet up with the legs.

And it is your thread that got me thinking about how none of the existing models allow for great variance. A million worlds, but they all look cadian?

I want napoleonic, WWI, buck rodgers. Anything unusual. Don't get me wrong, I have a cadian based army and I like it, but the ability to modify them is very limited. Metal figures are just out, since the pewter is so hard you can modify easily.

Whistful musings I'm affraid :-\
