Default 1st army list

I posted this before but it went quietly to its grave with no response, so i guess ill try one more time.

doctrines:
Light Infantry (LI)
Cameleoline (Camo)
Iron Discipline (ID)
Close Order Drill (COD, more of a filler doctrine until i get some comissars/RRs)

HQ: JO (honorifica)....94
1 heavy bolter team
1 medic
1 regular guardsman
(camo, LI, COD, ID)

HQ support squads:
fire support squad (3 autocannons camo, LI, COD)....80

Anti tank squad (3 lascannons, camo, LI, COD).....95

infiltrate or deepstrike (ill just inform the opponent beforehand and make a note, i believe the points costs are the same)

total: 1001 (yes, it is 1 point over, but i think it will slide....if not, ill just replace a bolt pistol officer with a laspistol one)

final notes: i was going to add in a macharian cross to the officer in the HQ squad, but points forbid it.

Strategy: infiltrate to cover, preferably near deployment zone, set traps and such using my superiour start position, storm troopers stay near, working together to capture objectives, deepstrike, and generally annoy the enemy. (any tips on strategy are also appreciated)

fluff: My force is a specially trained escort for mobile artillery, and a guarding force for non mobile, (i know i have none in the army, it will be added as i gain more money, thinking 2 bassies or griffons) using training in concealment to draw the enemy in to attack, springing from hidden positions before the enemy get too close, or waiting until they are nearly upon their targets until closing in from all sides. The COD is just a thing in there for now until i can get some commissars, and use the independent commissar doctrine. The regiments special assignments need utmost stealth to keep positions hidden; commissars are placed throughout the men to insure everyone stays down and does not break and fire too early, or run in the face of a chaos charge before the order is given to break concealment and engage.

being the attacking force can be rationalized by using less artillery, and more tanks/fast attack, since the regiment is already trained in stealth, why not use them to sneak up and attack the enemy when there are no emplacments or convoys that need protection. (this is jsut kind of an idea that i had, ill refine it and change it as i go along.)

fluff to include storm troopers:
The storm troopers are perfectly rational when infiltrating, its one of the jobs they wer trained for. deepstriking storm troopers represent paratrooper strikes against high priority targets when the regular men are in over their heads (such as a chaos lord, or marneus calgar, usually one of them would not command a raiding force, or skirmishing force; like the ones depicted in 40k for the most part), once one of these dangerous foes is sighted, more elite reinforcments may be diverted to deal with the problem

***I'm actually thinking of replacing tanks with aircraft, preferably thunderbolts or something, can anyone give advice on imperial aircraft?


I think Ill play a few games with the lasses in an AT squad before i move them, using LI, i can usually get them pretty far out of the way, and if they do get shot at, they have a pretty good chance to survuve until their purpose is fuffilled. If they do die before the tanks are dead, Ill just have to use the storm troopers to Deepstrike near rear armor, or make do with regular plasma squads. Also, everything gets thrown at the Russ usually, so Ill have a turn or 2 of respite before the AT squads get hit, I'd think. Also, I usually would give out some power weapons, but I dont have the points here, and I usually have terrible luck with them....in 1500 they should see some usage.

disband your anti-tank squad and give the lascannons to the squads, then get another autocannon, or a heavy bolter squad. other than that it looks great

Hmmm... the bolt pistol JOs should go with bolters... plasma guns go 24". so why not add another shot in there at a good strength? Anyways, at 12" you'll put out 2 shots, in place of one.

Other than that, lookin' great! I really like the simple squads, but a commissar or two would fly better in my book.

many thanks, i am a subscriber to the heavy weapon support team theory...my infantry are going to be shooting infantry, not tanks, even though they have plasma weapons. i think i will give the JOs bolters, and add commissars, more tanks or aircraft at 1500, maybe rough riders.

i started off like that, then my opponent discovered the throw-everything-at-his-AT-teams-and-leave-his-infantry-staring-down-a-landraider theory.

just a thought... if you really wanted a Mach Cross, you could just take the LI off of the 2 weapon teams... you will probably still have some cover you can deploy them in your regular deploy zone.

and I think Elessar brought this up too, move your lascans to the infantry squads and get your cheaper weapons in the HW squads. The points should balance out just fine.

I like the deploy into cover with camo. Makes every squad a headache to bring down.

I have always gone the opposite route with that. Lascannon and Missile squads pick off tanks and heavy infantry, while the tanks can splat battlecannon all over infantry. It's not like your lasgunners are much good at shooting infantry anyways, leave that to heavy bolters and multilasers and battcans and such.

Next time, just modify your first post, instead of making a new one.

Anyways: If youre fighting infantry with the standard squads, give them an autocannon or a heavy bolter, and then a grenade launcher or a plasma gun. All these can really tone down tough infantry.

I would keep the lasses in a designated squad, unless youre facing Space Marines or Necrons, where the humble lasgun won't do too much against their standard infantry. As long as you gove them a moderate cover save, they should be okay. Camo wouldn't hurt, either.

Add some power weapons, and you should be good to go!
