Default Steel Legion Help

Are Steel legion models worth it, or should I just go with Cadien infantry.

I really don't see how anybody can answer that for you but ill try anyway.

I personally really like the steel legion models but it all depends on your budget and what you want, which models you prefer etc.

If your only getting steel legion models because you think you need to use them if you want mechanised infantry then you can use any model you want(within reason) cadians are an example.

Do you like painting/modelling with metal or plastic.

We need alot more info before we can properly advise you.

I like modelling anything, plastic or metal, and I really like the looks of the models, but there kind of expensive.

+++I like the steel legion models as well, but for my traitor guard army I'll use a Cadian/Catachan mix. Partly because I like those models as well, but partly because of the price tag. Do you want your army to be mechanised infantry or not? Because if you use the SL models you can still make them walk and if you use Cadian models you can still mount them in Chimeras. In the end the decision's up to you, how much more you're willing to pay for models that you think are better+++

The advantage of collecting a metal Guard army are twofold:

1) your army looks unique.
2) you get kudos for doing it.

I say go for it. Steel Legion armies always look good on the field.

Oh, and is it going to be a Mechanised army, or a normal Guard force?

I do like the thought of a mechanized army. If so, what vehicles should I get?

Chimeras, lots of them.

After that, try a Leman (standard), and perhaps a Hellhound, Demolisher, or even a second Leman (if you can afford them).

If you want SL its going to hit you in the wallet.

The SL box cost 45, comes with 6 troopers, 1 sarg, one with a gernade launcer and 2 that form as the missile launcher team.

But the Cadians come with all the troops to make 2 sqauds, you just have to buy the heavy weapons

It works out like this for a platoon(alll in canadian)

Cadians

+45 for the box
+16 for the heavy weapon
+16 for the heavy weapon
+12 for your HQ, you'll have troops left over from you box so all you have to do is buy the single Commander for 12
+16 for a heavy weapon, commader wants his big gun.

Total $105

SL

+45 for the box
+45 for the box
+12 for the HQ model
+12 for two more troopers to go with the HQ
+12 for a signle Heavy weapon(ie you only get one weapon, H bolter, Las caonnon, ect)

Total $126

I knew this when I got my SL but I dont care because I did mine up like germans and they look kick ass.

If your new or poor go Cadians, if your a vet and got cash go for it.

+++Not nearly as much of a diff as I thought there would be actually (especially as it's $CAN rather than £GB). The commanders have to be bought as part of a command squad though, for cadians this means getting the command HQ as a boxed set, for the SL it means buying four extra models. Myself... I'm sticking with using Cadians and Catachans for my army, for a few reasons:
  • The models look more "generic" and my army recruits from many worlds in the fluff (I could use a few SL models for a bit of variety though)
  • the model ranges are bigger
  • plastic's easier to convert

Advice to CnadienWargamerW: if you still wanna do it, do it. If you don't, don't+++

That wouldn't make a difference. Imperial Guard forces are required to provide new uniforms to recruits, regardless of where they came from, so the regiment, once founded, keeps the same uniform.

Also, regiments rarely recruit in the field. It is normally easier just to meld together several depleted regiments.

Still, the advantage of Guard is they have more exceptions than Marines...
