Default Hellhounds [veteran tank?]

To be honest, why the hell is the hellhound not used as much as it bloody well should be?

It IS and awesome anti infantry/sentinel/raider weapon, i take as many as possible, they kick ass, and always get thier points back... so why are they so rare on the tabletop?

I have a heavily "BURN THEM" themed guard army, (Flamers, Heavy Flamer Sents, Hellhounds).

Is it because thier models are terrible?

It isn't AP 3... and too many Guard players can't see beyond "OMFG TEH AWESUM MARINEZ OWNZORS!!!"

He's got a point. A lot of player refuse to take special weapons which are AP4 or 5, despit the fact that they need no 'hit' roll and wound on a 4+ for basic flamers, 3+ for heavy flamers, no partial rolls, no cover saves, and it's a big template too.

My Marines like flamers as well, they have 4 in 1500pts, as well as 2 meltaguns. special weapons are ace but flamers just rock!

When I first started guard, all I had to play were marines, so they had little purpose as he didn't even use scouts.

However I converted one and plan to use it. They are an awesome tank from the looks of it.

They are indeed amazing. However, one of the biggest problems with this great vehicle is that as you said, the model is horrible, but more so that the odd rules and bad memories of the old hell Hound (I remember when I first started playing using a Guardian scatter laser to pop these things.) They don't differentiate between the old Hell hound (o'l burning lemming as we called it) and the new amazing, heavily armed and armoured version. Another reason is because joe schmo guard player seems more happy with buying more heavy weapons and Leman Russ tanks.

Well, I just played a looted Hellhound yesterday with my Black Templars. It was teh quick 700 pointer. It incinerated my squad, instantly!

Its an amazing tank, but range is my only complaint, really. I'd rather have a salamander than a Hellhound, just because its quicker and its longer ranged [scout]. Teh HQ Sallie is good, but I wuld rather have a Hellhoudn than taht.

Truth be told, it depends on your style of play. Against Tau, if you can get it up close, itll do wonders!

Well its range is 3 times better than the old hellhound!

Really I think its probably just people know what they used to be like and that skews their opinion of them now.

Hellhounds are awesome in my opinion. They just hit so easily, and can take out so many troops in one go.

Flamers are good, but are much improved when they are on a mobile unit (eg mounted Guard command squads, marine assault squads), or when they can move and fire at range like the Hellhound.

Hellhounds are scary, according to the vets in my area. But they also say that it is a living bullseye.

if you have a couple of Russes as well, people will probably target them first.
