My Sponsons
View Poll Results: How do *you* play your sponson fire arcs?
I don't use sponsons. 10 40.00%
I ignore the diagram, and use an arc running 90 degrees from straight out the side of the tank to a hull centerline in the front arc. The Russ ought to be able to bring all its firepower to bear in the front arc. 7 28.00%
I ignore the diagram, and use a 90 degree arc running from straight out the side of the tank to a line parallel to the appropriate side. This leaves an open corridor in the front arc that the sponsons can't engage, but that's ok. 3 12.00%
I just ask my opponent whenever I want to fire. 1 4.00%
I don't use sponsons. 4 16.00%

Default My Sponsons

So what do you do with your sponsons? The discussion has been lively in the old thread, and appears to have moved into two camps. I'm curious which side people fall on in general.

Which are vague at best. I follow my own reasoning, which is far superior than any of the rotting grey matter in GW. :

I don't use them. I prefer to let the lascannon/battlecannon do the work. I save the points for something useful like a trademark item for my HSO.

I agree the rules are vague, but some one person's reasoning is another's heresy. This leads to arguments and kills the game. I say simplicity has been the theme of 4th ed. fall in line like good little cultists.

Well, since the model doesn't match the rulebook...I use a variation of option 2. I go by what the sponsons can actually physically point at...as in a 90 degree arc, but starting from the pivot point of the weapon, not the centerline of the tank. I often find that one, but not both, of my sponson weapons can target a given enemy to my front. It takes a pretty broad target (like a spread out squad) for me to be able to engage with the hull weapon and both sponson weapons.
