Default "Kamikaze Squad" (Special Weapon Squad using Demolition Charge)

Would taking a suicide squad be bad, being a Special Weapon Squad with a Demolition Charge? I could deep-strike them or infiltrate them near enemy troops and tanks and can, and probably will, die because of being blown to pieces by guns and the possibility of a scatter. Is the Demolition Charge worth it, or should I not use it?

If your after 'risky' element in your game then yes the Demo Charge is exceptional! As a weapon. other then the range it is greeat for horde killing or knocking off a few marines (and often your own guys at the same time).

For a suicide squad, would this be good?

Special Weapon Squad:
2 Guardsmen w/ Flamers
1 Guardsman w/ Demo Charge
3 Guardsmen w/ Lasguns
63 points

Relatively cheap, and can kill lots of marines.

No, sadly. But you can take multiple squads. What if you did this?

The Demoltion Charger will be 2'' away from both of the Flamerers. Both of the Flamerers are 3'' apart, with a Lasgunner 2'' from both of them. Then, each Lasgunner is 2'' apart from each other. The last one will be 10'' away from the Demolition Charge so it will be less likely to die.

in the case of that set up... it's not suicde. but if you want to make sure they are safe then go for it.

for a suicde setup.

All units are an ich apart but there is a 3 inch distance between the demo and the far back las.
You see the point of this squad is to attract fire. kill off the las gunners first. the when it comes in range. Blast away with the flamers THEN fire your demo charge. always fire it last as to get the most affect out of the squad. if he lives change him to a las gun model or remove him.

It would be suicide since, if it was to scatter 6'' toward the end, it would kill all but one guy. How about this set-up?

That way, the Flamer guys have more protection.

too bad you can only have one per squad. melta guns or grenade launchers should be interchangable with the flamers. this will help if a certian situation should offer itself
the arrangement doesnt really matter, but it makes me feel a little better to keep buffers out front. every one should be given melta bombs. just incase

If only Imperial Guard had Photon Grenades. :-\ They would really help here. I want to get the least amount of models in the template as possible, just so they can die without getting blasted by their own blast. It is moreso a suicide for the guy with the charge, so I want my Flamer guys, or maybe even Grenade Launcher or Melta Gun if I want more protection, to live.

BTW, is there anything other than SWS that can take Demo Charges? They are one-shot weapons, so I believe that if he misses, the squad is basically useless. I wish Hardened Veterans could take them.

Given choice, I'd advise against the demo charge completely. Convert your platoon command squads to makeshift special weapon squads, and give everyone a plasma gun. Then you rain fiery death (to the tune of eight rapid-fire plasma shots), and end up just as dead, and there's no scatter.

And it doesn't take another doctrine slot (beyond the Drop Troops slot).
