Default Death Worlds?

Just out of curiosity, are all death worlds Jungle worlds like Catachan or can Death Worlds also be desert or ice worlds too?

I would assume since the term death worlds is used for jungle fighting veterans that they only pertain to jungle worlds. Desert and ice etc would be dead worlds, or at least thats how it was in the big old 3rd edition rulebook.

Deathworlds are a planet that is barely habitable due to unfriendly climate/flora/fauna/lack of the last two.

... at least, thats what I think.

Actually, a death world is any planet that is too dangerous to support widespread human settlement. The 3rd editon book on page 115 states multiple examples of environments that would qualify as a death world. Burning desserts and frozen tundras still are very full of life, just watch discovery channel.
A dead world is one that supports no life at all.

well, fenris is a deathworld, and thats like northern siberia.

a deatthworld can be any type of world that is particularly nasty to its inhabitants, whether its from clouds that rain sulphuric acid, the flora/fauna, environmental conditions, radiation left over from a 3,000 year atomic bombardment etc...

use your imagination and think of something grim.

Literary tip of the week form the god or murder and mayhem:

"Death World" by Harry Harrison.

This is the book which invented the concept of Death Worlds. Positively dripping with inspiration.

The Eldar Rule:

"If any model with the special rule Eldar! is on the battlefield the player may instantly declare victory and arrogantly storm out of the room. They may also claim any models, cash or cookies that are in the room."

I want to put to the record that I wholeheartedly support this rule and think GW should adopt it whenever they redo the Eldar codex. Cash and cookies are always good, and arrogantly storming out is an underrated pasttime

deathworlds are better for space marines, in general. catachan is one of the few famous non SM worlds.

OK, so the question is, what type of army do you want, and what doctrines would you take? what type of world are you thinking of?

For the world I'm thinking of a scorched earth type of setting, very similar to the Fallout world (Im too easily influenced :P) where the military would be recruited from primitives, raiders, and those who have been able to settle down to make some sort of civilization. I'm gonna go for an infantry heavy army, no vehicles at all so I'm fully open to using the Catachan List.

but catachan would imply a jungle world.

you want feral, and you want wastelands. infantry. no vehicles. hmm.

if you want feral, take warrior weapons.

what would be useful:

veterans. service to the imperium in intended to teach feral people imperial ways so should they return to thier world, they will be civilizing. so your force to be fluffy could consist of famous warriors of the stars rounding up other worthy fighters to fight, and then heading off with them.

Light infantry. your guys disdain the use of vehicles, as they're not used to them. they rely on movement by foot.

rough rider squads. feral + horses = accurate setting. doesnt have to be horses. can be some form of xeno mount if you feel like converting stuff.

heavy weapons squads. you'd need these if you want an all infantry force. just model them to be basic, and use basic equipment- h.bolters and missiles mainly i think would be appropriate.

hardened fighters. if you take warrior weapons, hardened fighters could make sense.

sharpshooters. your world is a horrible nasty place to live. those that dont shoot straight get eaten. the brave guys who are rounded up by the veterans to serve must travel a perilous journey to make it to the planets sole starport to serve the sky god emperor. so they're good.

personally, id go with sharpshooters, light infantry, rough riders and h.weapons squads, and veterans. forget about cc
