Default Ive got a new job.....so new IG army!

With a paycheck finally coming in and some nice money coming in for christmas im thinking of starting a new IG army. I want them to be an urban defence and recapture regiment, but unlike most of my IG armies i dont want them to be a massive horde of expendable bayonet wielding psychos. so here goes my first draft.

Teutonian 633rd Infantry Regiment, Can anyone suggest a name for them?

Preffered Special Weapon: Grenade Launcher
Preffered Heavy Weapon: Missile Launcher

Doctrines:
Grenadiers(aka "Sewer Rats")
Conscripts(militia)
Cameleoline cloacks(camo-flak)
Independants Commissars
Close Order Drill(im think of chaging this for light infantry, more effective and fluffier)

The teutonian 633rd is a city fighting regiment used to defend hiveworlds, forgeworlds and other highly urbanized areas. They relly mostly on guerrilla tactics and raids to try to grind the enemy down to the point where they lose the will to live. then aided by local militia they gather together for a final strike at the weakend, highly demoralized enemy. By this time the regiment will have gained extensive knoweldge of the city layouts using this to attack from all sides, and as means of retreating.

Due to the fact that they remain in one battlefield for long times the regiment often has to spread out, leaving it scattered across many blocks of building complexes. this has led them to use a vox system to comunicate between squads and the commanders.

The regiment often fights in industrial areas, meaning they have access to local manufactorers. this has led them to using Hell hounds in their raids. these tanks can move very fast, and ignore any fortifications created by the enemy. Also they are used to flush out buildings being held by the enemy. Another vehicle used by the regiment is the demolisher. they use these to place ambushes on advancing forces, by placing the demolisher in the main street stopping the advance, then the infantry squads that have taken up positions on the buildings along the sides can wreck havock among the enemies flanks.

This regiment is also famous for their camo-flak. this a specialised type of armour that uses light sensors to detect what forms of light are being reflect by the sorrounding environment, and changes colour acordingly.

Due to the high amount of population sometimes present the regiment sometimes forms conscript platoons to aid them in assaults and to provide firepower support. These platoons are usually guided by one of the regiments commissars and some veterans fighters.

The regiment has also set up a divison of their best soldiers. these men receive great training and the best equipment the regiment can afford. They are trained to carry out sabotage and assassination missions behind enemy lines, prior to an assault. They are also good at recon missions disrupting enemy supply lines, and are employed to take out some of the enemies heavier vehicles. These men often use the local sewer systems to try and infiltrate into enemy teritory, this has led to them being nicknamed the Sewer Rats.

Since Individual squads spend so much time apart and an HQ is never in one place for very long the regiments commissars have been allowed a very free hand. They are not bound to command squads as is usual and often acompany the regiments Grenadiers or are seen forming up conscript platoons from local population and refugees.

The regiment makes high use of greande and missile launchers, since most cities they try to recapture are vitaly important and cant be over harmed(if they wherent they'd ahve been bombarded by now) fragmentation progectiles are favoured. they are launched through windows into enemy held buildings to try and saturate them with fire and drive them out. These fragmentation missiles do alot of damage but leave the infra structure almost intact. Also missile launchers are very easy to tranport, and deploy making them ideal tank hunters for the regimetns hit-and-run tactics.

Heres the army list

Looks good!

I think Sewer Rats is a fine title!

For the list: I like your use of shortranged tanks [Demolisher, Hellhound], and your grenadier squad. It really screams CityFight!

I think you should change some grenade launchers to flamers and meltas, for obvious effectiveness and range issues.

Great list!

I love the list...but I have to agree about taking some flamers...I understand about the "preserving the infrastructure" concern, but I think they'd have a mix of flamers and grenade launchers. I sort of suspect that the grenade launchers were chosen over the flamers for tabletop non-cityfight concerns (range issues, especially. You don't need 36" in cityfight, and do need more than 8" in normal games). Fluffwise, thrown grenades would be more useful (launched grenades don't arm straight out of the tube, they have to spin in the air a few rotations or they won't detonate, and therefore are a terrible choice for close range fighting) than grenade launchers...but some would be okay, for popping a frag out the window and through a window across the street (especially with a sniper in the room in question!)...but for close-range fighting...or clearing a room before entering? hand grenades and flamers are the way to go!

Yeah, I find that hand grenades work really well in cityfight.* They are a must take.* Flamers are the special weapon of choice for me.* I also like snipers, and any indirect weapon.* I make extensive uses of hellhounds and have a couple demolishers as well. However, you must take LOTS of infantry. They can and will swamp any enemy if used properly.

But seriously, a Guardsman, I'm willing to bet, could a) outshoot me, b) give me the beating of my life, and c) shove more squad-based tactics down my throat than I'd ever care to digest. Guard are hard, hard men. Whether or not GW's inconsistent, Marine-worshipping fluff keeps with that, mkay?

Real men fight in tanks!

i dont have the city fight rules at the moment. im planning on buying it before i buy my army though, so this list will be switched around abit. Im thinking of downgarding the HSO to SO to clear up a few points. he wont be fighting and i can use the commissars leadership via vox anyways. I guess ill switch some GLs for flamers(3 Flamers for every 2 GL?) this will also give me some points. Im also thinking of getting rid of the chimera, switching the grenadiers to stormtroopers and infiltrate them instead. And with the leftover points ill get hand grenades, and change my close order to light infantry to infiltrate into buildings and get some snipers. all in all i wanted to go for WW2 german urban stormtroopers, like in enemy at the gates. Sadly i dont have enough money to buy steel legion and convert them to look german, so ill be using cadians instead(cadian 122nd camo-scheme)

Any other suggestions for the regiments name?

Well, a lot of names, like Stankov's Stalwarts, aren't fear inspiring. After all, you don't need a fearful name, the army should earn it!

I like Sewer Rats, but you could go for others too.

Just spend a day thinking. Thats what I did. My names pretty bad, but you'll come up with a better one.

I also suggest play a game with 'em, and then evaulate their game, then name them accordingly.

ive also got another question, commissars always wear black, its there thing(that and shooting officers). But this army has camaleoline so would i still make my Independant commissars black or should i give them urban camoflage like the rest of my army?
