Well, today I sat down and whipped this up. I am thinking about switching to doctrines, as Grenadiers and Mechanized look to be a tidy combo. I also like the look of the Leman Russ Conqueror...But alas, I am 23 points over the 1500 mark. Questions/comments?

take off 2 heavy stubbers, then your 1 pt under... to be honest if you are only taking 3 sentinels it's not worth it, they'll get shot down easy, thought about taking a hellhound, they are alot better in 4th ed. since their update, and a 24" flamer template does scare Tau Players (no armour save whatsoever for FW's) and eldar players, hide it in between 3 chimmies and hmm, toasted Xenos, i would put on some heavy flames on the chimmies for fun...

And i wouldn't post like that... it says you shouldn't just have the points value for the squad and not the individuals... TO gets in trouble for it

D'oh! You're right, where units don't have any upgrades, it shows the points cost! Sorry, sorry, sorry. Got to check harder on that kind of thing.

And about the Sentinels, they either do one, or the other:

A) attract large amounts of fire power

B) give large amounts of fire power
But hellhounds would be a nice alternative. I have seen them do remarkably well. Tactics wise, I was thinking about having my assault units (HQ's) go in, blast 'em with their tank, and rip the remnants apart in assault. The Conqueror will lead a lot of armored charges, using it's unholy amount of shots to get anyting stupid enough to poke it's head out. I will leave tank hunting to the melta-gun toting grenadiers. As Wargamer said, kill the enemy infantry with the tanks, and let your infantry kill the enemy tanks. I have designed the army with this in mind.

if your going to take 3 sentinels i'd take 3 one man squads, this gives them more mobility. so you can use them for flanking and tank hunting, since it lets each sentinel target a diferent tank/squad. and if your oponent unleashes an entire landraider shootyness on them you only risk loosing one instead of all three. also i'd give you commissar a bolt pistol instead of a bolter, mostly because of fluff but it also gives him a bit of edge as a counter assualt.

As an aside, Stormtroopers can take Chimeras as part of their stock codex entry. Your Grenadiers doctrine seems a waste in such an instance, since you could swap out one grenadiers unit for an Armored Fist squad, and make the other a regular Stormtrooper squad. Unless you're really really into carapace armor, I suppose.

You could probably use Close Order Drill, and make sure your men are base-to-base when they disembark from their transports. And that's a free doctrine.

he's taking them as grenadiers for fluff and so that they take up a troop choice, so he doesn't have to buy 3 more chimeras for the two squads and the plattoon commander. if he doesn't take grenadiers doctrine he has to take a stormtrooper doctrine, so either way its a doctrine gone. id stick with the grenadiers
