Default Barrage rules

I've been wondering about how the barrage rules function. I have read the rules in the newest rulebook, but they
are formulated in a way that I not quit understand.
That about if the marker is inside the weapons minimum range or beyond its maximum, the shot is a miss. ?
Could someone please explain me the rules in an understanding fashion?

basicly you say where you want the marker to land, you place the marker. then you roll to scatter, once you do that you check the distance between the hole in the marker and the tank, if its out of range the whole shot counts as a miss, so nothing happens.

Thank you.
(I wonder why the rules doesn't explain it as easy as that...)

I'm not so sure about that. I thought that shots could exist inside or outside of your range, as long as the preliminary shot was legal.

no more guess range

As for in or out of range...the model that you target must be in range...scatter need not be.

The centre-hole has to be within range for Blast/Ordnance weapons to "hit". If it is not, the shot misses automatically.

With Barrage, where you have multiple templates, I would assume only the first shell needs to be in range, representing the somewhat random drifting of the shells in flight.

yeah, i think what he was having trouble with was whether the hole had to be within range before scattering only or after aswell.

Yeah...I can imagine: "sorry, sir, the wind caught it and it flew an extra hundred yards, so it failed to detonate" :

On the other hand, I can see that it would be harder for a leman russ to hit a target at 72" than at 6", which is not at all represented in the rules, so maybe such an unrealistic rule like "it scattered to 73", so you get no template" is just compensating for other weaknesses in the rules.

its not used to represent the shell getting carried away, its used to represent duds and shells that bonce off before detonating.
