Default One more guardsman (Need some list ratings)

Hi. I have thought about beginning an Imperial Guard army. I have been through Tau, Marines and Daemonhunters before.
But I'm not quite sure where to begin.
I'm thinking about starting with a battleforce pack, but I need some examples for a 1000 points army list.
Could someone throw in a few hints?

This is your main command squad, keep it in the center of your army so you can provide moral support, also usefull as counter assault squad in an emergency.
Troops
JO with power sword and boltpistol

Just a nice little command squad, mostly this will sit down and provide a moral boost to troops around and take some pot shots at the enemy.

Squad one
Sargeant, lascannon
86?(can't remember what lascannons are worth)

these guys are the brunt of you army, they can provide anti-tank capability, enough bodis to last a round of shooting and focused las-fire will take any enemy down.

ah the leman russ, the heart and soul of IG armies(unless you play catachan) these guys soak up so much fire its not even funny, and any tank that can blow up 4 spacemarines in one shot is well worth having. and if the battle cannon comes off, you jsut send him in with a lascannon as a tough tank hunter.

997, a very shooty IG army and with three commissars these guys will not break, and you can hold of assault units long enogh to get your guardsmen into better psoitions. if you want you can trade the commissars in you JO squads for an extra squad and equipment if you feel you wont need them.

a junior senior officer is an oxymoron, not a rank. you would have done better to just say officer. i would use ellesar's list, but trade the lascannons out for auto cannons and grenade launchers. the tank is okay... but i would use the heavy bolter instead of the lascannon. i dont use or like lascannons due to the low BS of the guardsmen. two or three shots are much better than one.

yeah...the ranks are JO, SO, and HSO, or, in the old nomenclature that I prefer, lieutenant, captain, and colonel.

As for the lascannons, Fingolfin, bite your tongue! I understand what you're saying about low BS, but six lascannons means three hits per turn. It's a good number. I would get rid of the lascannon on the tank, though...mixing heavy bolters with lascannons is a bad idea.

One suggestion. Make one of the JO squads a stormbolter squad. You can get 5 stormbolters for about 90 points. That's the best use of that horrible platoon level command squad that I've found yet. 40 points for an LD8 bubble? blech! 80+ points for an LD9 bubble? Meh...90 points for 10 S4 AP5 shots at 30" range (6+24)? Now you're talking! Just not so great against power armor...

Hey, thanks. Many good ideas here.
Ill keep the six lascannons, but I'll change the hq heavybolters with autocannons.
But now I have some further questions.
Where can I get parts for the IG strombolters. And I am thinking about using hardened veterans, but
which models should I use to represent them. I'll also use a mortar team.
I can put up a list soon.

can i stop now? it hurts.one of the reasons catachans appealed to me so was the strategm involved in the lack of lascannons. yes you could get three hits at its strength, but 6 hits at s7 is much more appealing, and cheaper.

Yeah. Autocannons are good, but they lack the ability to penetrate armor. And I'm not
the kind of guy to let an ap14 vehicle live beyond the second round.

how does that work against leman russes? you realize that if i took off the lascannons and the enemy brought a monolith or raider the only way to win would be to get a direct hit from the battlecannon, roll a 6 to glance and then a 6 to destroy it. don't like those odds.

I think the absolute only guardsman with a stormbolter is yarrick, so you might have trouble converting it. for veterans i use the old stormtrooper models the ones with the berrets. i doubt you can get those anymore, though.
