Default How are the catachans?

okay, So I play tau and I like them a lot. I have thought that imperial guard look really cool for a while but didn't really want to get them because of the so many models. But i was wondering and i have got the supplement thing for catachans and i like the way they are a lot and was wondering if there hard to play? Can they get tanks? Are they fun to play? well just wanted to know what thier like overall thanks.

Talk to Fingo, and may i suggest using the hard copy codex, (not the downloadable one) as it is much more better than the others...

Doctrinated Catachans are pathetic.

Codex: Catachans is excellent.

Catachan Models are a joke.

Not much going for them sadly... but their Codex is far superior to most suppliment lists.

don't like the models either, its like having an entire army of 'rambos' sort of ruins the whole effect.

Catachans really fall apart in a none jungle battle. I didn't have all that many games with them when I used to collect them but I did have a few against Nids on a table with very little jungle terrain [just a few clumps] and managed to pull out wins due to the massed flamers I was using.

I actually think all the metal Catachan models are quite good, It's just the plastic Guardsman squads that are a bit of a let down.

catachans are fun and challenging to play.
they have the best plastic IG models, strategies must be very well made. the on line codex is good(and free),and March knows not of what he speaks.from the on line codex, their save is the same as the rest and they are much better than kroot.

see my 1500 pt list, and PM me if you want any help getting started.

Honestly, Catachan's are great if your looking for a challenging army to play with. The best there is in Jungle terrain but in anything else you've got a problem, however don't let that put you off.

Advantages-
-Easy models to assemble and reasonably easy to paint.
-Better then kroot in all respects
-Unique weapons/units like Traps and idependent snipers
-Two of the greatest characters ever made
-A fun great army for a challenge
-Codex Catachans allow for a 5+ save wereas doctrined Catachans have a 6+
-Ambush
-No army parrellels their skill in jungle

Disadvantages-
-No tanks (however i don't find this a problem)
-No Las-Cannons
-Small (yet very effective) squads
-Slightly expensive points wise compared to normal IG

Read this if you wish to know basic principals of Catachan and simple layout of squads.
http://forums.tauonline.org/index.php?topic=590.15 the second last post...

But really... if you want IG go for these guys just for the fun of it, and the fact that hardly anyone plays them is a bonus becuase opponents will most likly never have fought them before.

I speak of the 6+ save of doctrinated catachans. Other paralels to kroot: No tanks. limited access to weapons the rest of the army (IG for catachans, Tau for kroot) takes for granted. Horrible outside of their preferred terrain.

I've never lost to catachans, especially not with other IG, because I've never faced them on a jungle board. I know what I'm talking about. IG was my first army, and catachans are a lot more difficult to win with than any other IG army I've seen.
