1,500 aggresive Guard List

Default 1,500 aggresive Guard List

Hi all. This a a wierd 1,500 army list I came up with today.

First thing first: Doctrines.

1/Drop Troops
2/ Storm Troopers
3/ Grenadiers
4/ Special Weapon Squads
5/Iron Discipline

HQ: 1 Command Platoon

Command Squad:
Heroic Senior Officer /w Power Fist, Medallion Crimson, iron Discipline
Vox Trooper /w Master Vox
Guardsman /w Meltagun
Guardsman /w Flamer
Veteran Medic
plus a priest with an eviscerator *

1 Fire Support Squad /w 3 Auto cannons

1 Special Weapons Squad /w 2 Meltaguns, demolition charge

Total HQ cost: 392 (pricey huh?)

Elites:

6 Arco-flagellants 210 points (a maniacal melee unit from the Witch Hunters. So far very effective on a WH list, these guys are fast and lethal in CC. They need a priest to be fielded).

1 Storm Trooper Squad: 9 Troopers w/ Sergeant /w meltagun, grenade launcher, vox operator. Unit can infiltrate.

1 Storm Trooper Squad: 9 Troopers /w flamer and a Sergeant, grenade launcher, vox operative. Unit can Infiltrate.

Troops:

1 Armored Fist Squad
10 men /w missile launcher and a grenade launcher, vox caster
Transport: Chimera /w multi laser, heavy flamer

1 Grenadier Squad: 9 Troopers and a sergeant w/ 2 plasma gun and a vox operator.

Heavy Support:

1 Leman Russ Battletank /w lascannon and heavy bolters

1 Leman Russ Demolisher /w lascannon and plasma cannons.

Total cost: 1,502

The point of this force is to move forward towards the enemy and assault him first. The demolisher can provide cover for the Arco flagellants before they you "switch them on" and assault. The Elite storm troopers further cover the march of the Flagellants and the Armored Fist squad moves rapidly to intercept flank attacks. The enemy should have problem dealing with two different Lemman Russ tanks...so that at least one of them will be able to fire hard against the enemy (normally the Battle tank, the demolisher exist to cover the army's advance). I know that the model count is low, but i hope that the schock value of army will make up for it. Again this is just theory from someone who doesnt actually play the IG, but looks forwards to in the future. What do you think?

well it doesn't seem very assaulty, you only have one squad i would assault with.

I don't think you can induct just the arco flagelants. I think you have to take an inquisitor with them. Also, you have to take a standard platoon for every armored fist squad. Most armies will be able to deal with the archo flagelants pretty easily by shooting them, or overwhelming them in HtH with a high number of attacks.

if you want a really assualty army, cut the stormtroopers, they're useless in CC. use the doctrines to get something like light infatry(infiltrating is great) and warrior weapons, if you don't get warrior weapons then maybe you will want drop troops. he's right about the flagelants and the armour fist. if i were you id cut the arcos aswell. get a platoon(or two since the JO is good in CC and you can give his guys pistols and swords for free). but this is for an assualty army, maybe you want aggresive but not necesarily close combat.

All right thanks for the help . By the way you CAN take acro-flagellants in an IG army (you dont need an Inquisitor and the WH FAQ confirms it).

however, you need a doctrine point for the priest. your list would then be invalid.

Wow, that's not very many models. The comments you've gotten so far are pretty well spot on. 6 close combat troops isn't enough by any stretch of the imagination.

I'd only add that you're apparently building your HQ group as a CC unit, but you're also using Voxcasters to do the Leadership thing. This will work...until your commander or MasterVox guy bites it in an assault. Which they'll do, since you're going to be using them, since your arco-flagellants aren't going to be enough.

You want to either drop the voxes out of the list, OR strip back the HQ group and keep them well hidden, using them SOLELY as an HQ booster. With the points you save, you can take at least a platoon (that's HQ plus two squads) of basic infantry, which gives you a good deal more shootiness.

Try this:

drop troops
hardened veterans
heavy weapons
chem inhailers
special weapons

This is my path to assaulty IG.

Drop in with meltas, demo charges, heavy bolters, sentinals w/ lascannon, autocannons.* All eletes as veterans w/ shotguns.*

Drop on top, pop the rot, make'em drop, then assault the slop.

Try this for assault:

12 ogryns and 10 guardsmen packed into three chimeras for around 600 points. Add three leman russes for 500 points, a standard infantry platoon for 250 more, and around 150 points worth of HQ (autocannon squad and command squad, perhaps?). That's a very agressive 1500 point army. 600 points of assault, 500 points of ordnance, and 400 points of fire support.
