He recently used a hellhound against me and it had the inferno cannon, the falmer with the 24 inch range then the template. he said, since the codex siad, you have to cover as many enemy models as possible, and he regard that as placing the template sideways along the unit of firewarriors. tell me is this what you actaully do or is it that you direct the template from the direction the turret is facing. please tell me

As far as the rules go, it doesn't seem to be a problem - the codex makes it look as though such an action is legal, of course it makes it more difficult to maintain line of sight to the entire template.
I suppose it could be justified as the gunner throwing a curtain of flame by spinning the turret from side to side... and please, please don't use huge streams of capitals for a thread title. |

anyway, I see what your saying but why isn't that allowed with other flamers. wouldn't that make them over powered?

The inferno cannon uses the template in a very, very strange way... other flamers eminate from the origin point (let's call it X) and the stream ends at a further point (Y), so you can point it in new direction but the entire template moves. With the Infurno Cannon, the source X is purely theoretical and the flames realy effect areas between Y and Z... so moving X could manipulate the location of Y without changing the endpoint (Z).

It represents the gunners firing in an arc so the wind can carry it a greater distance than normal. Stuff under the arc isn't affected.

So long as no part of the template was more than 24" away, and he wasn't hitting models out of LoS, he can place the template any direction he likes.

Lol, I always explain it as the gunner doing a trick shot..
"Ok now watch this, into those fire warriors.. off that rock there..." "OOhhh... Ahhh...." -Judge Holds up a sign with 10 on it.- oi.. BUt yes anyway, it is entirely correct to move the template, as wargamer said, any direction so long as doesn't go past 24 inches. In fact you must do whatever you can within those 24 inches to get as many enemies as possible.. even if the template ends up facing back at the hellhound.. strange but true... :P
