Default Mulling over IG

I am considering my next army to paint, and I've been thinking hard on IG. However, there is one problem that has me uncommitted yet: bland! I'm not talking paint, I'm talking figures. I don't want Rambo jungle fighters, or cadian shock troops. Now I've run out of options. Are there models I don't know of (plastic ones please) that are an option?

Thanks
Wanax

There's the Necromundans... but you'll need to scour eBay for them.

Are they the guys in blue uniforms with red trim. Look like Italian policemen?

I like the ones in gasmasks, but they are metal (expensive).

No, you're thinking of Mordians. Necromundans are the 1st Edition Guard, which look a little like metal Cadians.

Just mix and match the plastic/metal bits. I'm personally fond of Cadian torsos and Catachan arms, so you've still got the flak vest, with beefy arms for neat-o skin effects. You can pick up all sorts of different heads from the GW online store (or, if you're me, eBay), and swap out whatever you like for whatever you like.

But I like the ragtag look.

it used to be impossible to do IG without spending a lot of money on metal minis because there were no plastics.* Personally, even though my army is the old metal cadians, I would recommend that you try the valhallans (metal, of course) for a WW2 Soviet look and feel.*

But the only plastics I know of currently are cadians and catachans.

/edit/

there's a rumor on spacewolves about plastic valahllans!

I don't want to disclose my Gevesa idea, but for IG troops I want something much more southeastern Europe pre-WWII looking. Leggings, simple helmet, overcoat, bedroll, woolen uniform.

Don't know what I could do without major modifications to cadians--eg whittling down armor and helmet. Learning to use green stuff doesn't sound like fun to me either.

What about using something from the Empire or Bretonian Warhammer line?

Closest thing you can get to that are Steel Legion, which look like a cross between 1st and 2nd World War Germans.

The best thing I can suggest is to get Cadians and convert the pants off them, just like I did.
