Default 750 pts 'not entirely sure what I'm doing' list

HQ 1
Company Command Squad
-4 * Meltas
-Attached Chimera
-Hull-mounted heavy flamer

Elites 1
5x Ratlings

Troop 1
Veteran Squad
-3 * Nade Launcher
-Autocannon HWT

Troop 2
Veteran Squad
-3 * Nade Launcher
-Autocannon HWT

Troop 3
Veteran Squad
-3 * Nade Launcher

Fast Attack 1
Valkyrie
-Multiple Rocket Pods

Heavy Support 1
Leman Russ Battle Tank

Alternatively, I could take out the crew compartment and the melta bombs in the CCS to kit out the CCS with meltas, but I'm limited by how many meltaguns GW dishes out in their command squad (1) and infantry squad (0) sprues. This list is expected to be going up against Chaos, Tau, Nids and Orks. And maybe the occasional Eldar.

EDIT: Army list updated, still working around shortage of melta sprues.

Hi there.

Quick thing first off, can you edit your post so all of the points costs are removed. Its against forum rules to post them. Thanks

The Heavy Support i feel would be better as a LRBT, the bassilisk is good, but either you have it in the open and it is very vunerable, or you hide it and can't hit anything withing 3feet of you. A Leman Russ is far more survivable and has better firepower against more targets.

A Flamer command is ok, but doesnt make use of the better BS the verterans in the squad have. A Melta or Plasma squad is good, but more costly.

Is there a reason that your only making a 750 points list?

Righto, sorry about that. All rectified now.

Hrm... Having read some other threads here, you have a good point, but now my problem is where I'm going to scrounge up that extra 10 points from. I suppose I could remove one Veteran squad, but that would reduce my objective-claiming capabilities (considering how I once saw an entire Vet squad wiped out in a turn by lucky Genestealers). Alternatively, I could drop a single Ratling, but that just feels odd. Not implausible, though.

Granted, I would be much happier with a melta command squad, but as stated, melta bits are annoyingly scarce and I'm desperate to keep the impact on my wallet to a minimum. And once again, points allocation becomes an issue, especially if I go with the LRBT.

Well, I'm really only getting into the tabletop aide of WH40k, so I'm taking it slowly and building my army up over a few months. So for now it's 750, but my friends and I will most inevitably expand into 1000 points and above in due time.

Unless they come free, you could drop the melta bombs in the command squad. that should earn you 10.

It might be worth dropping a Missile Launcher in a vet squad, as they will prevent any mobility you might have.

But one Missile launcher down is a small price to pay for a LRBT.

Aight, assuming I scrap the melta bombs, take out one HWT and downgrade the other two to autocannons, that allows me a full melta CCS as well as the LRBT. This detracts from my AT capabilities, though I suppose I could make up for it by using a Vendetta instead for my Fast Attack choice. Thanks for the input.

Updating list to accommodate latest changes, C&C is of course, always welcome.

Yeah the Vendetta is brutal. Put a squad of Vets in it and they can get anywhere on the table turn one. This is especially deadly if they have 3 Plasma Guns.

Or put the Melta Command in it and fly over to the biggest nasitiest vehicle on the table and vapourise it.

After a bit of playtesting the other day, I decided to make some tentative changes to my list. This one's designed with each squad having a specified role, or something like that.

HQ – 125 pts
Company Command Squad
-4 * Flamers
-Attached Chimera
-Hull-mounted heavy flamer

Troop 1 - 130 pts
Veteran Squad
-3 * Meltaguns
-Demolitions doctrine

Troop 2 - 95 pts
Veteran Squad
-3 * Nade Launcher
-Autocannon HWT

Troop 3 – 100 pts
Veteran Squad
-3 * Sniper Rifles
-Missile Launcher HWT

Heavy Support 1 – 150 pts
Leman Russ Battle Tank

Heavy Support 2 – 150 pts
Leman Russ Battle Tank

I think this might be better as an all-comers list, but the fragility of Vet squads in assault is still worrying. Would it be more prudent to drop a LRBT and give all the troops Chimeras?

Now now, don't make me bring out the Nob Bikers thar. :3

I still think Ratlings are potent enough provided if you know how to deploy and NOT expect to be seized initiative "as always". :P

Otherwise, it looks solid though, losing a Fast Attack option doesn't really harm you anyways since Valkyries may do a shoddy job against MEQs.

Your Veterans will need the Chimeras to survive. So yes, drop the LRBT and get Chimeras for your Veterans.

Is that list low on AT? I find that LRBT don't really pop tanks that well. Relying on one melta squad might be an issue as the opponent can pop that cherry and sit at range.

For additional melta, you can cut off the fluid container part of the flamer, green stuff a basic melta "cable" and voila.... Actually looks quite good.
