So BIV (a tournament in newcastle Australia) will get me inspired to finsih off my Valkyries properly (mainly just some grey highlights and transfers) and do company number on the shoulder of each dude. Also have to paint an inquisitors retinue and assassin but thats no biggy.
So... the Elysians 501st 'Red Vultures' - 2000 point varient with allied Inquisitor. HQ Command -Power Fist -4x Melta Gun -Astropath 135 Ordo Malleus Inquisitor Lord -Annointed Weapon -Bolt Pistol -Scourging -Emperors Tarot -2x Heavy Bolter Servitors -2x Mystic -2x Familiar 175 ELITES 3x Ratlings 30 Eversor Assassin 95 TROOPS Infantry Command -4x Sniper Rifle 50 Infantry Squad -Rocket Launcher 65 Infantry Squad -Rocket Launcher 65 Special Weapons Team -2x Flamer -Demo Charge 65 Veteran Squad -3x Melta Gun 100 Veteran Squad -3x Plasma Gun -Demo Team 145 Veteran Squad -3x Grenade Launcher -Demo Team 115 FAST ATTACK 3x Valkyire -3x Rocket Pods -3x Heavy Bolter 420 2x Valkyire -2x Rocket Pods -2x Heavy Bolters 280 2x Vendetta 260 TOTAL: 2000 Solid build with some fun stuff. I'll post fluff if people are interested, just gotta finish writing it up.

I'm not sure what your doing with the Inquisitor setup, the annointed weapon and pistol suggest combat, but heavy bolter servitors and scourging suggest shooting. Is the pistol and weapon there in case there assaulted or for counter attack if necessary? I don't know much about guard though.... But I do like the list! |

Actually fluff is in the link i posted but i'll throw it up.
This is the pre inquisitor fluff, writing the new stuff over time. it's not great, but it's a start. Recruited under the pressure of invading Chaos forces, the Elysian 501st was formed with 3 purposes in mind that no other regiment could perform on such short notice, Recon, Rapid Assault and Hostage Rescue. The 501st are all men and women of armed forces or sporting backgrounds, such as Arbites, Planetary Police, PDF forces, football players, sport marksman and the Imperial Navy. The regiment was granted access by the Munitorium to their own Valkyries and support crews, making the 501st one of the few Imperial Guard regiments with its own air force. Chaos attack was Imminent on the outer Elysian system planets. Wasteland worlds and other easy targets were the first planets to be attacked. 2 Argi-Worlds fell before a defence could be mustered. The 501st was the first of the newly found regiments to be sent to the outer worlds to fight the taint. The 501st was tasked with gathering intelligence, and disruption raids on the Chaos supply lines. A successful attack on the back bone of the Chaos advance saw only the first wave of cultists make it to the system. The remainder of the Chaos Forces fled. Their Commander, Captain ‘Scourge’ Kane, was commended and Promoted to Colonel and his 2IC ‘The Fist’ Jackson, was given the Rank of Major. The regiment was given its nick name- The Elysian 501st "Red Vultures", due to repeated successful missions against the traitor Chaos forces, captured prisoners (before their execution and extraction of vital information) would often speak of the 501st bird's as "Red Vultures" because of their red and black scheme, waiting in the sky for the right moment to strike, and when they do, it's like Vultures to a carcass, nothing is left... The regiment was sent to fight a Tyranid incursion in the Scirocco Valley. Kane commanded his forces well, in conjunction with regiments from the Catachans, Mordians and Terrax Guard. Making vanguard raids and scouting missions into the heart of the Tyranid spawning pits. Kane’s Valkyire was taken down during a fierce fight, he and his ground men fought for their lives, killing hundreds of gaunts and several bigger Xenos creatures. A mere 90 men remained when the Tyranids over whelmed the forces and the 501st’s valkyries were forced to pull out. Kane ordered his men to remain steadfast and they fought to the last. Kane came face to face with what was later dubbed ‘The Terror of Scirocco Valley’. He dodged its first two swings before a blind slice from one of its massive talons cut his left arm clean off at the shoulder. Two Valkyries remained, one of which risked certain suicide to save their Major. The squad medic on board was able to sedate the commander and suture his wounds before he bled out. Kane was bought back to the command post from the front, and handed over to Officio Medicae personnel. He was grafted with a bionic arm and for his bravery and command ability was rewarded with a Power Sword. A gift which he has kept by his side ever since. The 501st was put onto the Imperial Honour Roll for its work as a linch pin to the entire Tyranid counter attack campaign. As one of the few regiments with surviving members to be put onto the roll, many regiments have vowed to make the 501st pay for that Honour Roll position. As such many regiments do not follow orders to support the Red Vultures. The 501st is now a rapid operations force, tasked with Search and Rescue, Captive control, assault recon and assassination.

Trying to fit in a psychic hood... where would I get the points?
I could possibly drop the ratlings, or the heavy bolters of the squadron of 2 valks. In my 1750 I have a unit of mortars as a heavy weapon team, I don't know what I want to drop to keep them in... I'm pretty happy with the inquisitor setup (I could get rid of 12 points, maybe 18 from his retinue). I could get another 5 from making the annointed weapon a power weapon, but then I loose the oh so nice 2d6 vs defilers, raiders (I know hard to get) and possessed vindis and the like. And his fluff is for an annointed weapon. The Astropth isn't entirely required either, but it would be nice at 2000 to have him.

Dropping Emperor's tarrot (I personally don't think it's that useful, the best it can do is get you a draw on the roll off) and a Familiar (it's just an extra wound at the moment seeing as your not taking any additional psychic powers) will give you 21 points. Allowing you to take a psychic hood. Well thats what I'd do. But you might find those other items more useful. |
