Heya all,
Well, I am gonna be going in a frenzy when I get back from Holidays to build my army to 600 points for Conflict..
So, what do you guys think is the best way for me to build a mechanised Grenadier force? I want an army in this format that is quite competitive whilst employing a different style of play than most other IG armies.
I was thinking for 600 points something like this:

JO, Power Sword, Storm Bolter
4 vets with Power Swords and Bolt Pistols
- Carapace
Chimera

8 Grenadiers
2x Plasma
Sergent with Power Sword and Bolt Pistol
- Chimera

8 Grenadiers
2x Plasma
Sergent with Power Sword and Bolt Pistol - Honourifica Imperialis
- Chimera

I have no idea if thats anywhere close to 600 points, but it's a basic idea and when I get home from holidays I need to know what to buy straight away.

Well, this is for a 600 point doubles tourney, so I think Chimeras have a perfectly fine frontal armour..and 3 or them should do fine, as long as I hug terrain.
Thanks for the suggestion though, might do it when I expand the army.

Veterans can't have Power Weapons, I'm afraid. The Chimera also needs weaponry - at simplest, a pair of Heavy Bolters will work wonders for dakkafying targets, or a Multi-Laser and Heavy Bolter for more effect against light vehicles.

The HI choice in interesting... I'd go with a pair of Meltaguns so you can take on the few heavy vehicles that dicks sometimes bring in low-point games.

In terms of points, the list above (minus the power weapons on the Command Squad veterans) (and assuming a pair of heavy bolters on the Chimera) comes to only 583pts by my quick calculations... drop the Honourifica, the veterancy & bolt pistols in the command squad, the stormbolter, all the bolt pistols, and then you only have to cut 25pts to get a legal 500 point army... or, you could expand instead and go for 750pts.

This squad is a support squad that can deal a crap-load of heavy firepower.

7xHardened Veterans
-3xplasma
-missle launcher
Infiltrate these guys and pop open anything from medium tanks to heavy infantry

8xGrenadiers
-2xmelta
-vet. w/ Honourifica Imperalis, power weapon
Tank bustas. Also due to honourifica they can hold out in combat, wich they might need to do whilst getting so close to tanks.

8xGrenadiers
-2xplasma
-vet. w/ power weapon
chunky plasma squad

Leman Russ
-3xheavy bolters, extra armour
What do I need to say?.......its a russ. B00M!!

Total: 593 (I think, I dont have the Codex handy)

Hey, thanks guys but..
The force is gonna be Mechanised Dostrine so I need Chimera's for my squads.
So maybe:
Command
- JO, Power Weapon, Storm Bolter
4x CC Weapons and Laspistols
Chimera
- 2x HBs

2 Greandier teams move forward to the objective or to single out a squad and rapid fire them both.Then wherever these two fire base teams move to, the Command squad moves behind, so if either squad gets bogged down in combat the command team charges.
This is for a tourny so it needs to be at 600 points first, then I will expand it after seeing how each unit performs in the tourny.
Still not sure if it is at 600 points..

Conflict you say? Which one? - i did the Sydney one for the last two years, 40k was always 750pts though.. ?

Dunno if you are from Australia or not ???

Whatever you take, make it good against MEQs, thats all i can say... These kinds of tourneys are swarming with 3+ armour saves.

By the way haz that comes to 568 so stick tank tracks on all you're chimeras and its about right.
I don't think you're list has the punch we're gonna need though.
People, correct me if I'm wrong, but tourney armies need to have an unexpected factor or a particular focus so that the enemy is thrown out of whack.
I may be wrong and this list might do fine, but maybe consider putting something else in, or having a force on foot so you can field more.
