Thinking up a Guard list, would be nice if people could comment on what it's missing. It's a Balanced list, squads/platoons for anti-hvy infantry, tanks for light infantry, squads for anti-tank, etc. Anyway yeah, give it a look over.

I don't have enough troops. I had to give myself the Grenadiers Doctrine just so I could fill in a troops slot. That kinda bothers me. I want to keep the Hellhounds, as they're my favorite tank, and I'd like to use at least one Basilisk. I don't like how my Command Platoon is only useful for Ld, but maybe thats just how Guard works? Another thing is that I only used 3 of the 5 Doctrine points; which isn't a huge deal but w/e. So yeah, please rip this list apart, I need help as I'm new to Guard, I've been playing Tau and Slaanesh for the past few years, no idea how to use these guys or what they're supposed to be like.

As far as I can tell, it's pretty good... however, I'd drop one Basilisk for a Russ, drop the Honourifica from the Commissar (why? he's got a better statline than an HSO anyway), and maybie shuffle a couple Lascannons down to Heavy Bolters for horde control.

You do know that carapace has to apply to every model who can take it...
so the Fire Support teams... and every Guardsman unit... unless you have a Commisaar in your platoon command you're not allowed to add him to the Stormies... I suggest putting your fire support teams in your normal squads instead of in Fire Support teams... maybe get rid of the Sentinels... You already got enough bang for your buck, if you want more troops, get rid of the sent's... DO NOT give the Commisaar the Honourifca, huge waste of points for a slight stat raise... If you want a Honourifica Character, then may I suggest a Sanctioned Psyker, with Master-Crafted Force Weapon, and a Plasma Pistol... he will hurt...

You know, aside from those things others have mentioned, IE, not giving the Commissar the HI, so on,
I kind of like it! It is simple, adaptable, and flexible! Perhaps you could play-test it and give us an idea of your sucess? Stankov

Oh? I thought the Special Gear Doctrine was just an option for units if you bought it w/ the Doctrine point, not a requirement. That does change things.
Yeah forgive the lack of Guard knowledge, only got the Codex a few days ago, not quite sure how assigning Commissars/Advisors works yet, or the Fire Support teams etc. The reason I like the Sentinels is b/c they give me reliable and most importantly, mobile anti-tank support. Granted I have a Lascannon platoon but they can't move+fire, and it's only 1 Lascannon per squad. I have the Storm Troopers and they would be good for armor busting, but not until they grab a good position on the battlefield to deploy out of the Chimera. I'll have to rethink some things like Doctrines and the like, though I would like to know....do you think the current number of troops (infantry) is adequate for a 2000pt Guard army? I always pictured more but I'm not quite sure what to do, if I have a good number or if I need to drop some points.

HQ: Man if you have a comissar with a powerfist, you need to give your officer a power weapon, believe me, you get way more puch for 5 points. And why are you forking out for a master vox when you don't have a HSO? leadership 10 is way more reliable then 9. Change the Fire support squad to a mortar squad as indirect fire is nasty. Upgrade the missile launchers to Lascannons to insure more anti-tank potential.
Elites: Good grief, get rid of all those troopers with lasguns. Special weapons will do most of the damage. Troops: Why do you have all of these lascannons? CHANGE THEM to autocannons or Heavy bolters. You don't have enough troops! We recommend a minimum of 50 for 1500 points and 75 for 2000 points. Even thought they are weak, they can kill in high enough numbers... Also the comissar with HI is over the top. Fast attack. Ditch one hellhound, two is over the top. Get rid of two sentinels and keep one with a Lascannon for anti-tank. Heavy support: Turn the Demolisher into a normal Russ, give it a lascannon. Change one of the basilisks to a Leman Russ. Yes drop the master vox,you can add a vet to your command platoon and a vet sgt to your squads.Change your AT to lascannons.
Hardend vets are fine as I can tell,shotguns work well to.Drop the vox. You cant have a commissar with your storm troopers,I would give them infiltrate to as the transport is a steel coffen sometimes. Squads rop the voxs and add a heavy weapon.you got a special but add one in a squad.Sentinels:Give it the upgrade where it doesnt count as opened top(cant think of name). Drop a hellhound. Drop a basilisk add a russ.Give your demo a hull lascannon,you can give hull heavy bolters to normal leman russes,this is your take out everything tank basicly. For troops add an armoured fist squad. Or add another squad to your platoon and add another platoon. |

ok buddy #1 get rid of those point totals,you can get us in trouble with GW edit them out,just put the total with the whol unit with wargear and everything else added up after the entry on each unit.
On to the list.Why do you have a medic when you have no plasma,that is the only reason in my mind is what it is for,if you have 2 or more plasma in a squad it is useful.You should add a plasma gun to compliement it.I still dont like that master vox,should try Id(iron dicispline)read the codex for what it does,works more or less with the LD without the vox. Support squads look goo now. Vets look good,I would drop the vox again as they are pretty well off with LD of 8,add a plasma pistol and power fist(maybe honorifica). How many ratlings?Always take a high number. Platoon looks good,drop the voxes and add a vet sgt if you are worried about LD. Fast attack looks good,stormtrooper squad looks good. Demolishers are your heavy hitters and should not have heavy bolters(But considering your lascannons in your AT).Give your line squads those when you get more squads,if you want them add a russ with hull heavy bolter,bolter sponsons,and the battle cannon.Nice tank it would be. |
