Default Flight dice?

I had an idea (ooh shocker) :

Applicable to flyer's, skimmer's, and jet bikes only
flyers may may have the maximum of 6 dice
fast skimmers may havethe maximum of 4 dice
Non-fast skimmers may have the maximum of 2 dice
jet bikes can only have 1 die

Ok what do these dice mean?
These dice are the altitude the vehical are at.
Ok so what.
for every 2 inches above the battle feild you add 1 to the die. This then is subtracted from the range of every weapon fired at/from it.
So my if Valkyrie is flying 12 inches above the battle feild I put a d6 with a 6 on it and every thing shooting at it has to subtract 12 inches from their range.
yes and you would too.
so what about deploying from that atitude?
if your units have jump/jet pack normal scatter rules apply, grav chutes add 1d3 for every dice up you are. but nothing beyond 2 dice high.

Edited to effect the range of both the flyer/skimmers attacks and deffence

Flyers already subract 12" from the range of a gun trying to shoot them.

There seem to be no real disadvantages to this - the vast majority of flyers aren't even transports. Make it so all weapons shooting at & FROM it subtract that number.
