Default My victory points system (friendly games) - long post

Every model that player 1 kills gains player 1 the amount of points that it cost (including all upgrades). Whether or not you wipe out a squad is irrelavant for that purpose. Troop selection chart also has no effect - simply the points values. (Even if an ethereal is killed, the killer only gets the points it cost)

You do not lose points for getting your units killed.

When doing equal teams, replace "player 1" with "team 1" etc.
1000 points example battle:

2 players - SIMPLE rules

Player one: 100 fire warriors
Player two: 100 kroot and 30 fire warriors

At the end of the battle:
Player one has killed 40 kroot and 10 (enemy!) fire warriors.
Player two has killed 50 fire warriors.

Player one gains 280 points for the kroot and 100 for the fire warriors.
Player two gains 500 points for the fire warriors.

Player one destroyed exactly 38% of player two.
Player two destroyed exactly 50% of player one.

Difference: 12% in favour of player two. (SIMPLE RULES)
Verdict chart:
Less than 5% difference: No victor/loser (The only verdict where nobody wins)
5%-9.99% difference: Minimal victory/loss
10%-19.99% difference: Small victory/loss
20%-24.99% difference: Significant victory/losses
25%-33.29% difference: Large victory/loss
33.33%-49.99% difference: Massive victory/loss
50%-65.99% difference: Massacre
66.66%-74.99% difference: Obliteration
75%-89.99% difference: Complete Wipeout
90%-100% difference: Enough said.
Another example battle:
This is a free-for-all battle with 2000 points per side. 4 players uses the ADVANCED RULES, where instead of comparing kill scores ("I killed more than you"), you compare your kills with the weight of your own force ("I killed 900 points with a 2000 point army")

Player A = 100 space marines (1500) and 10 rhinos (500)

Player B = 130 Fire Warriors (1300) 100 Kroot (700)

Player C = 400 spinegaunts (2000)

Player D = 200 Guardsmen (1200) including 20 Autocannon teams (300) and 10 Cadian Sentinels (500)

Player A kills (in order of enemy owner) 20 Kroot, 40 Fire Warriors, 100 Spinegaunts, 4 Sentinels, 60 Guardsmen and 10 Autocannon teams (each including 2 Gaurdsmen as well as a 15pt heavy weapon)
Total points 140+400+500+200+360+(120+150)

Player A gets 1870 victory points.

Player B kills the other 300 spinegaunts and gets 1500 victory points.

(Player C lost all their units but only after killing 20 Marines and 20 Kroot. They get 440 victory points.)

Player D killed 90 Fire Warriors and so gets 900 victory points.

A = 1870pts
B = 1500pts
D = 0900pts
(C) = 0440pts
Repeat, you do NOT lose points for your units or even your entire army dying.
A killed 93.5% of their own force size
B killed 75.0% of their own force size
D killed 45.0% of their own force size
C killed 22.0% of their own force size (and lost their entire army doing so.)

This represents how effective your army was in relation to their points cost, rather than their losses. Sounds illogical, but I like it
A made a very good score based on the size/weight of their own force.

A compared to B = 18.5% difference
A compared to C = 71.5% difference
A compared to D = 48.0% difference

Winner to losers
A to B verdict: Small Victory
A to C verdict: Obliteration
A to D verdict: Massive Victory

B to C verdict: (75% to 22% = 55%) = Massacre
B to D verdict: (75% to 45% = 30%) = Large Victory

C to D verdict: (22% to 45% = 23%) = Significant Loss

Player A Results : Small Victory, Obliteration(win) and Massive Victory
Player B Results: Small Loss, Massacre(win) and Large Victory
Player C Results: Obliteration(loss), Massacre(loss) and Large Loss (as well as complete Army Destruction)
Player D Results: Massive Loss, Large Loss, and Significant Loss
Add up all of each players results worth in points.

No victor = 1 win point AND 1 lose point
Minimal victory = 2 win/lose points (use common sense here)
Small victory = 3 win/lose points
Significant victory = 5 win/lose points
Large victory = 7 win/lose points
Massive victory = 10 win/lose points
Massacre = 15 win/lose points
Obliteration = 20 win/lose points
Complete Wipeout = 30 win/lose points
Enough said. = 50 win/lose points

(Army Destruction) = Any lose points doubled, any win points halfed

So:

Player A Results : Small Victory, Obliteration(win) and Massive Victory
Player A win points: 3+20+10=33 win points. Lose points: none.
Player A gets a balance of 33 points if this tournament was played with my rules.

Player B Results: Small Loss, Massacre(win) and Large Victory
Player B win points: 0+15+7=22 win points. Lose points: 2
Player B gets a balance of 20 points.

Player C Results: Obliteration(loss), Massacre(loss) and Large Loss
Player C win points: none. Lose points: 20+15+7=42
Player C gets a balance of -42 points. (doubled because army waas destroyed) = -84

Player D Results: Massive Loss, Large Loss, and Significant Loss.
Player D win points: none. Lose points: 10+7+5=22
Player D gets a balance of -22 points.
Player A's tournament listing:
battle # Damage (win points) (lose points) (balance) (Armies lost balance) (Battles won)
battle 1 1870 33 0 +33 0 1

Player B's tournament listing:
battle # Damage (win points) (lose points) (balance) (Armies lost balance)(Battles won)
battle 1 1500 22 2 +20 0 0

Player C's tournament listing:
battle # Damage (win points) (lose points) (balance) (Armies lost balance)(Battles won)
battle 1 440 0 42(84) -84 1 0

Player D's tournament listing:
battle # Damage (win points) (lose points) (balance) (Armies lost balance)(Battles won)
battle 1 900 0 22 -22 0 0
P.S This does make sense, honest, you may just may need to re-read it. ;D

EDIT: Because in 40K, what you send in will generally die a lot, you get the points based on what went in and what damage it does. Whether it survives is irrellavant - there are always thousands more troops.

Please give some feedback. Bear in mind the difference between SIMPLE (2-player or 2 team games) and ADVANCED (4 players or 3 teams of 2 players or whatever,)

Hope you like it ;D 8)

Another example - The Battle For Macragge (at the north pole), where you will see my logic.

[bold](SIMPLE RULES)[/bold]

PLAYER/TEAM ONE Ultramarines first company & PDF trained by the marines (read tyranid codex, aye).

5 Squads of 10 Veterans. 900 points.
10 Squads of 5 Terminators. 2000 points.
300 Guardsmen. 1800 points.
2 Leman Russ battle tanks with hull heavy bolters and extra armour. 300 points.
Total 5000 points.

PLAYER/TEAM TWO Tyranids

500 Termagants without number. 4500 points.
50 Termagants with flesh hooks and without number. 500 points.
Total 5000 points.

At the end of the game (a certain amount of turns):

The tyranids have lost 362 Termagants without number worth a total of 3258 points,
as well as 31 with flesh hooks and without number worth a total of 310 points.

The defenders have lost 249 guardsmen worth a total of 1494 points.
both leman russes worth a total of 300 points,
28 terminators worth a total of 1120 points,
and all 50 veterans worth a total of 900 points.

PLAYER ONE (DEFENDERS) HAVE KILLED 3568 points, which is 71.36% worth of their own force
PLAYER TWO (TYRANIDS) HAVE KILLED 3814 points, which is 76.28% worth of their own force.
Difference of 4.92% = No victor/loser.
Bear in mind that is an example of a game, not an accurate portrait of what actually happened. This is also a practical demonstration of the SIMPLE RULES. I'm too tired to portray the advanced rules...

Enjoy
