Default A Decent Way of Making Tau Characters

Currently i'm working on a method of a kind of VDR for Tau characters, it will combine articles from this site as well as others with the final version showing up in No Man's Land. In addition there will be some GW articles added-

has anyone ever wanted to see something specifically? a piece of Wargear for example that the House Rules has come up with for Tau- no more weapons please.

Would this just be Shas, or would the other castes and races be included?

Currently? Ethereals and Shas- however I want to expand it to include the possibility of all the other castes.

In that case, for human characters, you simply have to have the option of using an XV-29 battlesuit.

I shall lose all respect for you otherwise.

Well if you put it that way- and based on my constant need for approval- SURE!

seriously, i'll think about it, if I don't get to it this version i'm sure to hit it up in a bit. Care to show me the XV29?

They're modified XV-15s used by the Gue'senshi. Basically the same as regular XV-15s except:

1) They're worn by humans (duh) so work from a human statline rather than a Shas'.
2) They have a Power Weapon in their free hand.
3) They have no Stealth Field.

The only individuals the Gue'senshi article mentions as being allowed to have these are the Gue'senshi'o and his bodyguard, who I assume to be of Gue'senshi'vre rank (although this is not explicitly stated). It does however state that they are only the first units to be equipped thusly, so it's not beyond the realms of possibility that the XV-29 may have been distributed more widely among the Gue'vesa of the Empire by now.

In terms of stats, I would expect a Gue'senshi'o to be a HSO, and a Gue'senshi'vre to be a JO (before bonuses).

Oh christ no...

The first rule of VDR is to allow the user to create something inkeeping with the army.

So, let's list the thing you CANNOT MAKE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES in a Tau VDR...
 • Any non-Shas unit that uses a Battlesuit.
 • Tau close-combat units, items, etc.
 • Por units.
 • Fio units that are in any way combat based.
 • Kor units that are in any way combat based (save Flyers).

Given the trends on this site, that should kill off 99% of all suggestions. :

Look, XV-29s exist. It's not like I'm making them up or anything, although I can understand your objection i.e. power weapons.

Why no Por, though? They're used in Epic.

Where did I mention the XV-29?

Por have no place on the battlefield; they are diplomats and merchants. Do Eldar send poets and artists into war? Does the Imperial march cooks and taylors onto the front line? No to both.

Only soldiers fight. The Por are not soldiers. Neither are the Fio, and the Kor are not either.

yeah- ok, i'm just going to put down the rules in a few hours.

And Wargamer: Yes the Imperials do, all the time- read the original Chaos codex and it mentions a unit from Terra with the Chaos Marine scoffing at them sending scribes and note takers into battle, and i'm sure you could argue that the Eldar shouldn't send Farseers or Bone Singers into battle- but they do and theres a model for the latter.
