Default Question about Ethereal "Stand-Ins"

I'm a huge fan of the Kroot, with the exception for my disdain for their terrible technology which makes them look like the biggest bunch of wimps since the Grots.

I'm also a huge fan for Unreal Tournament, and there is a character race in there called the Gen Mo-Dai that is very Kroot-like in appearance. Look at one of them, Damarus, I felt a little inspired...

Kroot evolve through diet, but what if there was a small group of Kroot that had been feeding off of Space Marines, Eldar or even Tau? These evolutionary ascendants would be vastly superior to their primitive counterparts and, if they did indeeed eat marine and Eldar flesh, could live for centuries upon centuries.

I was thinking of creating a Kroot conversion to stand in as the Ethereal in my army using basic Kroot parts, as well as Tau, Space Marines and Eldar bits to make him resemble Damarus from Unreal Tournament slightly.

I've already named him - Exsul, Kroot Lord! :P
Good idea or not?

That's an interesting idea. If I were a Shaper, though (which I seem to be at the moment), I wouldn't want my kindred eating Space Marines. One of the new articles about the process of making a Space Marine mentions that their body chemistry has to be constantly monitored in order to keep their implants working. The price of all their power and longevity seems to be an inherent instability resulting from humanity's incomplete grasp of biochemical genetics.

Remember Jurassic Park and how they filled DNA gaps with a frog's?
I'm pretty sure that's what would happen if Kroot devoured a Marine - the Kroot's own DNA would fill in the gaps of a Marine's genome.

Nice idea, I guess you could do that in house games if your using ethereal rules for him. the only thing is it's very unlikely for a small group of Kroot to leave the Perdus Rift, as Ork hordes have been constantly coming on from the outer edge of the Rift, which would be unlikely for the Kroot to get out and find space marines or eldar to feed on. But, then again, it's a parallel universe, so there's not much impossible.

Ever heard the phrase "You are what you eat."?

It's true.

We eat stuff and take in it's DNA into our bodies. Yes, humans. Typically this is easily broken down or incorporated into our own bodies with no effects, but people who eat too much beef have difficulty breaking down and properly digesting the protiens in the beef DNA. Our bodies don't know what to do with it and it's deemed "crap". Litterally. What we dont' use we expel.

I imagine (although not often or vividly) that Kroot don't expel. They metabolize all the protiens they consume and make use of every molecular bit of the food the eat. Eventually, through offspring, mutations show up that are differnt to the norm, which is actually, in my theory, probably the Great Knarlock. Those things eat humans in quantity and have little, puny hatchlings - Kroot Carnivores.

In a lot of ways, to have this kind of metabolism where there's no waste to speak of, the Kroot species is a lot more liek a virus than anything else. Just a guess...

If Kroot were a virus, then they would be allied with Nurgle. ;D

Kroot leave their little area all the time specificially to go eat other races instead of just the enemies of the tau... thats what the kroot mercenary list is....
