He's so into character, we'll need a tau dictionary to understand him

This topic would be better off under the "House rules" section.

So you're going to start working out a list for Browncoats (good guys from Firefly/Serenity), and they can be taken as an auxiliary for a Tau army? The Tau can already get a version of these with the chapter approved rules- they're called Gue'vesa. Browncoats are pretty much imperial guard with a 6+ save, slightly better CC, and no man-portable heavy weapons. No tanks either.

This should be in House Rules...

I'd think the Guard would be a better army to base this off of. Just my opinion though.

House rules are house rules, Marc. If you want to post an update link in Tau when you have made some progress, that would be fine with me. But this belongs in House Rules while you are working on it.

For my part, it sounds like a good idea. Sort of a specialized type of Gue'vesa or Rogue Trader.

From what I remember, they would be well-represented by Imperial Guard rules of some kind. You could probably do it with the regular Imperial Guard codex and appropriate doctrines. I have been hoping for Rogue Trader (the profession, not the era) retinue rules for 40k for a long time. GW is a little light on the swashbuckling, and they are a perfect candidate.
