Hi. I'm working on making a costume of a TechPriest for a con I'm going to be going to in the Spring. I've been talking to people on cosplay forums on advice for making the armor and such, but they're not that much of a help, they just keep saying 'wow that looks hard'.
Basically, I want to recreate this pic. http://image.com.com/gamespot/images..._screen010.jpg I think I can handle making the armor, as I've made plenty of other stuff out of random materials for 40k, I'm just not sure where to begin for this. If anyone has any ideas or has tried something similar, reply to this. I def. need some ideas on what materials to use for the armor (esentially everything minus the Axe, Backpack, Cloak, assorted wires, searchlight...).

For the armor you may want to try plastic or maybe going to a place that sells props

are you talking spring 2007 or 2008? :
but seriously maybe some plastic sheets, make them interlocking so they'll move with you.

I'm thinking this for materials. LOTS of Plasticard sheets. I know how to work with it, and given a T-Square and a saw or something, I can create crisp angles so the armor will fit together like I have drawn up in my designs. If I had a good digicam I'd upload pics of my plans....the way I'm doing it, it doesn't seem that complex, really. I am cheating hard though, I'm going to make a chestplate that just has raised portions to it, see the Cadian Flak Vest, thats kinda what it'll be like....and then I'm just going to put the cloak OVER the chestplate, so that bypasses the whole rebreather/powerarmor-y deal.
The hard parts will be making the pieces of armor that wrap ALL the way around a certain part, like the arm pieces and the shin guards. As for the thigh plates, I'm just going to make pieces that wrap -enough- around me so it'll look good, and just have elastic ties or buckles w/ belts connecting them around my thigh. As for the Power Axe, I've got that under control. I'm using polysterne foam, the pink stuff, for the Axe head, along w/ assorted fans and wires for the gubbinz. As for the pole, I'm thinking just PVC pipe. I used to make cool weapons w/ PVC, pipefoam, and duct tape all the time. The backpack....I've got some plans for that, but until I can upload a pic of what I'm planning, it's way to complex to explain. The ONLY real problem that I haven't been able to come up with a good solution for is the re-breather. I would REALLY appreciate any suggestions on how to build that + connect the tubes to the backpack. -Def posting pics of this when it's complete sometime next year. I'll keep you posted on the progress ^_^ b
